I give the raw bones usually everyother day or so. Especially when I haven't done much with my girl and she got some extra energy in the evening. I freeze mine prior, but more so for the mess factor. Much less mess frozen, and she's trained to stay on the blanket with it till she's done. (hours later!)

I feed all raw, and she does just fine, no cooked bones. Usually I buy the big soup bones in the grocery store. They are nutritionally better than the bones in the pet store you see, those are pretty much worthless as far as nutrition goes (not to mention the basted ones are so greasy they have given my past dog's acne on their chins). Plus you'll pay a lot less for a soup bone in the store-maybe 1.50 (give or take for two of them) whereas the bones in the pet stores are far more money, and the dog's get no nutrition out of them.

I don't adjust my dog's food intake in comparision to her bones, b/c generally there isn't much meat on the "recreational bones" and I give the bones usually a few hours after her dinner anyway (when we settle down to watch a movie or something). If I give her a really meaty one, then I do feed a little less.
