Some of you might remember Blizzards story. As you now he's still chewing on his wound. We've put bandages on, chews them off, non-itch and non-chew spray licks it off. How can I stop him from licking his wound? My grandfather is making a leather boot (I think) but I'm worries he'll chew it right off. So again, how can I stop him from licking his wound?

Have you tried an E-collar until it heals? By that I mean one of the elizabethian(sp?) collars, or cone collars. That would be the only thing I can think of at this point. It seems you have exhausted all other options.

Are you sure because that would not allow him to chew on his wound at all. Here is what it looks like, they commonly use them after neuter's and spays on dogs that won't leave their stiches alone.

His snout is so long it goes right around the edge of the collar and he CAN get to it. We've tried ones that also make him not able to turn his neck that far but its to small for him now.

The vet's office can make them to the specifics of your dog so even if he has a long snout they can make one that would fit right.

Any idea how much that would cost?

Check out this link, it explains how to make one yourself. I would think it would be cheaper than getting it at the vets. They also carry them at some pet shops like petco. I would call the vet and ask for a quote.

You are welcome. I hope you figure something out that works for you and your pup. Poor thing, it must be really bothersome for him to constantly being chewing at it. Have you had a vet take a look at it? What kind of a wound is it? Is it a hot spot or something of the likes or an actual wound from being hurt on something. If it is a hot spot you might try switching his food to something without corn in it which tends to be a common allergen in some dogs.
