I've been happy with petshed.com. They post expiration dates on everything. But be warned, the stuff comes from Australia and some of the labeling is a little different.

Please be aware - when you purchase from an online pharmacy, the manufacturer's guarantee is void. You have no idea or guarantee how the product has been stored, shipped or labeled. The manufacturer's guarantee is only kept when purchased through a legitimate source, such as your veterinarian. So if your animals have a negative reaction - you have no ability to seek legal/financial assistance, whereas normally the producing company will pay for such instances.

Is this the same sorta thing as happens with many products online, where the manufacturers try to deny warranties? Where are the vets getting the products from? How do we confirm shelf life etc for products purchased directly from the vet?

Is this a legitimate concern, or just a method of keeping prices high?

Are there no legitimate, reputable online sources? There are perfectly reputable Canadian web pharmacies that also sell pet medications.

Feel free to contact any company and ask them about the guarantee.

As a side note, the veterinary clinic I purchase my medications and preventatives from is CHEAPER than 1-800-PetMeds.

Sure wish my vet offered those prices. As it is, just purchased some eardrops for $40, available online for $9.

Veterinarians get their products directly from the manufacturer and thus, they are shipped and labeled correctly. You have a guarantee for how the product has been cared for. Online pharmacies do not follow these guidelines in most (if not all) cases.

It's a method of making sure that the proper items are prescribed to your dog for the proper issues. This needs to be done by a knowledgeable source, such as your veterinarian.

You could just as well make this argument for all doctors, yet somehow people manage to survive while filling their prescriptions anywhere they want.

On line meds...

I just checked some of the links and priced Frontline Plus, I paid $46.80 at the vet recently. The online shops were the same or more expensive the vet, without even adding in the shipping. Maybe for some things the online stores may be cheaper, but not for Frontline.
