to catch/kill, or test, to see if they're in your room/carpet:
Get a shallow pan and fill it with hot, soapy water (dish detergent is good). Place a lamp over the pan (those bendy ones work great for this, but any lamp will do I guess). Put these in the middle of a "problem area," turn out the lights and go to bed
In the morning you should find some drowned fleas in the water... The heat from it attracts the fleas and the jump towards it and die in the pan. You can do this whenever you feel like it, and as often as necessary. When your not catching any more fleas, they're probably all gone. This and vacuuming is usually enough for our (and friends) flea problems once the animals are protected. Also, don't forget to wash sheets, bedding, ect
