Just wondering how Ruby's doing these days from the UTI? What's the news, and what have you tried? She's such a beauty...

I am so sorry to hear that.

I do have experience with incontinence with Dulce. I don't know if she had a blader infection of any sort, but she did have a high white blood cell count, which would indicate some sort of infection.

Does your dog drink lots of water? Have an accident?

I totally feel you, I've gone thru the same thing. It's painful, but treatable. I hope the vet gave you incontinence medication..

Hi everyone – I haven’t been around for a while due to basically just being SO busy with work and the dogs and everything. Chester’s been quite sick with a nasty ear infection recently, too, so it’s all been flat out with them. I really appreciate everyone’s responses.

To update. Miss Ruby is doing much better, she has lots of her old spunk back – is cheeky and energetic again. We never realised how sick the poor baby must have been feeling, we honestly thought she was just mellowing out as she got older. Which is partly true – she is still more mellow these days, but her silliness has come back – she is playful again and not as despondent.

We got a urine sample from her yesterday that the vet has sent off for culture. It is not as sterile a sample obviously as they one they took via cystocentesis, but it will do for the basic tests that are needed to see whether the infection is still hanging around. The results will be ready later in the week and I’ll let you know.

Her symptoms have cleared up wonderfully, though, and the antibiotics have been finished for a week now with no signs of recurring infection. I guess we’ll just keep our fingers crossed that we’ve got it licked for now! She’ll be having cranberry tablets every day for at least six months now, which will be good prophylaxis, but hopefully that’s all she’ll need – I don’t like her to be on antibiotics indefinitely. Can’t be good for her.

Her incontinence has been totally nonexistent lately so that answers that question I guess - it was due to ongoing infection and not her spay. Phew! :)

Great news...YAY!!! I still give Soph her cranberry capsule twice a day and will continue indefinitely. I just plop them in her food and she seems to like them plus they can't do anything but good.
I hope Ruby stays clear too. There were a few times where I suspected something with Soph and testing her PH and running a sample in cleared my mind, she's been clear for well over a year now.:)
