What did I ever do without you?

So my evening went like this....

We missed nosework two weeks ago since Summer was injured. I was supposed to bring both girls to make it up last week but the tornado hit and we cancelled. So I decided to work them both tonight.

I had to drop my sister off at her house, which is about 2 miles from the training facility. I went inside and talked for like... 5 minutes to my family and left the girls in the car. The treats were in a sealed ziplock, in a zipped bag, in a locked kennel, in the trunk of the SUV. Mia has gotten the treats twice before so I've gotten tighter on security with them. Well, I talk to them, get back to my car- everything is fine. I then go on down the road, pull over and open the trunk and realize the ziplock is laying in the trunk and the turkey is 100% gone. There was probably 1/2 a lb in the bag. :yikes:

So... walk of shame to my trainer. "Mia ate all the treats again." Really short of NEVER leaving her in the car with treats in the car, I don't think I'll fix this. I have been good lately about pocketing the treat bag on the way out. Oops.

So I put the dogs in a spare soft crate and then head out to my car to grab my wire crates.... I walk back in and my trainer is holding Mia. "What happened?" "Mia escaped the crate."

So Mia goes in the wire crate. The rest wasn't that eventful... my two barked quite a bit. I accidentally set Mia up in front of an old tv and she could see her reflection in it. So that needed to be barked at.

About halfway through class Summer escaped the crate. She has figured out that if you dig at the upper left corner of the zipper you can catch it and unzip it. I kept having to re-zip it all class.

All the other dogs behaved themselves. Except for mine.

On the plus side Mia did not throw up that turkey on the way home. She worked super slow though today. I bet she felt bloated, lol.

Oh goodness that all sounds so familiar LOL. If the treats are ANYWHERE in my car, even in my trunk (I have learned the unfortunate way) Lola will find them and get them. I had to leave her in the car for a few minutes while I was picking somebody up at the airport, and I had a conundrum because I also had bought a rotisserie chicken. I didn't really want to take the chicken with me because weird, so I ended up stashing it under the car and crossing my fingers that airport security didn't arrest me for being suspicious :rofl1:

Ugh, story of my life lol. I can't leave my two alone with ANYTHING edible within their reach...and sometimes, out of their reach.

Wow Laurelin you have some very sneaky smart dogs! and Beautiful.

I replied to your post "am I the only one?"
I asked what breed your dog are but now I know.
I thought so but had to ask. It's the ears.

If you look at my avatar, my dog gets this all the time "What breed is she, is she part Papillion? I reply "ah, no".

Your dogs sound like a lot of fun!

Fortunately my dog doesn't or at least hasn't done this before. I just made a whole big batch of cookies last night.
I put the plate in front of her with a few dozen and she just stood and looked at them but when I took one and gave it to her, she devoured it.

I have left treats out for her when I have gone out and are still there when I get back, and then she will eat them. . . .

Now if there are any important papers laying around, chances are they will be shredded by the time I get back. She loves to shred paper. lol

Thank you for this story, was enjoyable.

I am always shocked when people can leave edible things unattended.

Or when athletic dogs stay in xpens.

Dekka is really bad, not only will she eat all my training treats if left access to them, she steals others. More than once when I am taking a semi private class and we are all discussing the course Dekka will go rummage around in the other person's stuff to find their treats.

The only good side is that Dekka knows I have the thumbs and proudly brings me the container to open.

(which of course I do, with permission, and give her a treat. This stops her from ripping into it and helping herself to the entire contents)
