There's a no kill shelter somewhat near my parents' house (where I still spend half my time) that's being shut down (I think it was finances or something). They have to find homes for 28 dogs and 21 cats before animal control puts them to sleep.

I have absolutely fallen in love with this little Corgi/Basenji mix. Her brother is there, too, but I'm more attracted to her playful personality, especially since Chester needs a better playmate since Jag can be antisocial sometimes and Chester LOVES playing with other dogs.

I've always wanted a Corgi or Corgi mix, and I love white dogs for some reason.

Problem is, not only can I technically not afford another dog, but they're going to go back under my parents' care starting next semester and my mom was already upset at the idea of me keeping Chester.

Somebody tell me no! Those eyyyyyes!

So adkins pet center is shutting down? They have some purebred dogs, I'll see if I can find any breed resces looking for them. I can't tell you whether or not to go get that pup, you'll do what is best. Maybe you could adopt and re-home her instead of keeping her.

This is a good idea if you're able to do it :)

i've been able to find a pit bull rescue that I e-mailed about the Amstaff and a Basenji rescue to e-mail about the six Basenji mixes, hopefully at least some of them can be pulled, I'll tell you if I hear back.

unfortunately the Basenji rescue is full and cannot take any of the Basenji mixes at adkins. I haven't heard back from the pit bull rescue.

She's so cute!!

If Chester is going to be in your mom's care indefinitely, then it may not be a good idea. If, on the other hand, it's short term...maybe you could talk your mom into it. Mine's a big softie when it comes to me (as evidenced by the fact that she has agreed to take my cats and puppy if anything happens to me, though I know she's not excited about the idea (of my dying, either, of course)). It may make the transition to your parents' place easier for Chester, too...

Do what is right for you. I got really upset last night when I read about a couple of totally adorable puppies within driving distance who were in danger of being PTS if not rescued, but, at the same time, it's just not the right time for me to adopt again. I wish it was easier to have a dozen dogs so they could all get saved. Bailey would sure love it, but I have a feeling my cats would find a way to escape. ;)
