Just when I thought that chis were out of the "limelight," Disney has to go and make a movie about a Beverly Hills chihuahua who lives in a purse :yikes: Ugh, and the chi's name is Chloe :yikes: Now there are going to be even more BYBs breeding chis, and more ending up in shelters.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Drew Barrymore will voice a pampered Chihuahua in "South of the Border," a talking-animal Disney comedy whose line-up includes a who's who of Latino actors.

Among them are Andy Garcia, Salma Hayek, George Lopez, Cheech Marin, Paul Rodriguez, Placido Domingo, Edward James Olmos and Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo. The live-action film will be directed by Raja Gosnell, who previously worked with Barrymore in the 1999 comedy "Never Been Kissed."

"South" chronicles the adventures of a Beverly Hills Chihuahua named Chloe (Barrymore) accustomed to riding in a purse. While on vacation in Mexico, she gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home.

Garcia is playing a German shepherd who was kicked off the police force because he lost his sense of smell and has now given up on life. Hayek is Chloe's spirit guide who helps her find her true heritage.

Lopez is Papi, a macho romantic Chihuahua who will do anything for the love of Chloe. Piper Perabo was previously cast as Chloe's human owner searching for her lost pet.

Barrymore, whose recent credits include "Lucky You" and "Music and Lyrics," has done voice work in the past, having been heard in last year's "Curious George" as well as on TV's "Family Guy."

Gee so sad I have turned down 2 commercials for my dogs and are very selective of the TV shows I go on.

My ego wants the attention but the logic over takes this each and every time

You're lucky that your breed is still relatively unknown and untouched. I would be very selective with the appearences I brought my dogs on as well.

We had a dalmatian growing up... two years after we got her, the live action "101 Dalmatians" came out. So many people bought poorly bred dals with aggression issues... one of our neighbor's had a dal that would growl and snarl as kids walked by, and had a ton of issues on top of that. Everyone expected our dalmatian to be "blind, deaf, and aggressive."

If Disney is going to make a movie about chihuahuas, why can't they make one about how small dogs hate being treated like accessories? I just know that this is going to make so many little girls want chis to keep in purses =/

That's a shame. Now every little girl is going to want that signature Disney purse with a real "matching" chi. And chi's will be bred, and bred, and then later dumped in shelters. Not trying to be a pessimist, but, I can almost see what direction this will take. :(

Atleast someone didn't make a movie about your breed being like a mechanical man eater and name the movie "Rottweiler".

Movies ruin all breeds when they get a notion to make a movie about them.

^^ Charming picture isn't it ?
