This made me want to cry. These people are not Christains! Do they forget that Jesus ate with sinners, he talked and became friends with a prostitute?! Please don't take offense to that, I simply mean that they obviously believe that the Muslim religion is not right but even so they should be kind to them. They may not agree with the Muslim religion but you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. How terrible and mean.

Does anyone have an answer for this, Grammy? I'd love to hear it. :( The world is a sad, sad, place. Children are growing up materilalistic in backgrounds of hate and intolerance... it's sickening.

Just as bad at this, I was reading a forum discussing this and people are hating all Texans for doing iwhat only some are doing. Such hypocrites. I feel sad for the human race.

Maybe I'm wrong.. but I didn't see anywhere in the article saying the community were Christians??

I don't understand why everyone is so upset.. those people are voicing their opinions.. they've been there forever, if I lived there I'd voice my opinion too.

What if a mosque were to be built in your neighborhood.. would you put up all that wailing 3-5 times a day??

That 'wailing' is no more offensive to me than church bells.

If people don't believe a certain religion, why are days celebrating nothing be such a huge deal?

Yes , I think I would . They are in prayer and I would respect it . Buddy's ... if there was an answer , I'm sure it would be tried . Right now it's tolerance of people of all cultures and religions ..... they aren't the ones with the drugs and killings and drive by shootings ! The Unitarian Church in my old home town has opened their Church to ALL religions . Each taking turns in services . It's sure opening many eyes from what I've heard !

How dare they! What are they thinking?! That every Muslim is a terrorist?! ARRRRRGH!!!!!!! I've lived in Istanbul for quite awhile...and the people I've met are the nicest, most friendly people you could ever imagine! Any other hospitality in any other country is a joke compared to the hospitality I have experienced there! Something like this makes me SO mad!

Hehe...I remember...I lived right next to a mosque...in my first night when it "went off" I thought it was a bomb alarm or so and stormed out of my room to wake up my turkish guest family LOL :D

*shakes head* Do your hear yourself? Are you teaching your children this same intolerance?

I don't believe in religions other than mine. But I also not a holier than thou person... I wish everyone peace in their own religion, in what they believe.

There is no harm in what these people believe in. And, as Grace said, 'wailing' as you call is, is no more offensive to be than church bells or Jehovah's Witnesses knocking on my door. I respect them, what they believe in. No harm in that either.

That is sad. There is a mosque about 40 miles away from where I live and on the news they said that it was the oldest and largest one in Iowa. and starting next year it will start being restored to it original condition. The entire city that it is in is also helping with restoring it.

I think it is great that a mosque is being built. Its a place where people can gather sharing a similar faith. It is no different then a temple or any other church and think it is horrible that there is such hatred out there where these people cannot gather publicly peacefully. Not everyone is a muslim is a terrorist just as not every christian is a KKK member. Nor is this mosque forcing people to come, I hate it when I get religous solicitors at my door wanting to give me the latest addition of the watch tower!

Building a mosque is FINE...just like building any other sacrid house of religion. I am all for religious freedom- trust me, I have belonged to more than a handful of them during my life journey. I believe the conflict goes beyond that, which people rarely admit to. I am not siding with anyone, just pointing out the fact that the Jewish, Pagans, Bahai Faith, Jehovah Witness, Mormons, Buddhists, etc. do not own a businesses on every corner. These faiths I mentioned do not profit in astronomically large numbers on american capitalism. After hurricane Katrina I noticed american owned gas stations did not gouge prices anywhere near the non-american/muslim owned gas stations. Also...non-american/muslim owned convenience stores tend to sell drug paraphernalia right there on the counter. Why do they do it? For crisp George Washingtons. I feel that is why certain homely old fashioned country bred americans act this way and balk against certain religious erections such as a mosque in their neighborhood. Keep in mind: the dollars from the local taxpayers built it, and their dollars will continue to fund it.
Yikes...don't flame me- just my very honest observation. :hail:

I live near 4 mosques and the "wailing" does not bother me at all, in fact I find it rather pretty. I also live near 2 churches who had their bells pulled out because they rang every Sunday morning at 7.00! That is far more rude than the chant to prayer that is only ever sang on a Friday evening not some ungodly hour on a Sunday.

The people in that neighbourhood are being racist scaremongers.
