Okay, I couldn't find a thread for this so here goes....Mordy you seem to be the authority?

Has anyone tried Nutrident dental chews? Similar to Greenies but by Nylabone. Plus, I heard Greenies kill, but my vet recommended Nylabone. My puppies love it, my only concern: they only chew it for a while and then swallow the rest whole...usually the head of the toothbrush. One of my puppies occasionally throws it up. I am wondering if a larger size would slow them down. They are 13 lbs. and I buy the small size but am thinking of switching to medium and maybe they would be less likely to swallow it? Or, I am scared they will just swallow bigger piece with the bigger size? What to do?

Nutrident are VERY similar to Greenies in formulation. The only big difference in my mind is that they have a different name (and are made by a different company). The biggest problems with these chews is people who do not supervise their dogs while chewing, or don't choose the appropriate sized chews for their dogs. By the sounds of your dogs chewing habits, I doubt either would be an appropriate chew for your dogs.

Try something that's 100% digestable if they swallow big peices, like Bully sticks.

I would stay away from artificial chews like that.

Julie's suggestion of bully sticks is excellent, and you can also feed raw, untreated natural bones, for your size of dog for example lamb ribs and chicken wings (all raw, never heat treated) would work well.
