than someone yelling at/threatening/making gestures at MY dog. She's in HER backyard, not YOURS. She's protecting her yard, not yours. So don't tease them through the fence (as I have requested several times) and don't yell at her for being a DOG. You JERKWAD. HMPH.:mad::mad:

Hm. I feel a bit better.

I understand your frustration. Its mostly kids though in our case.....its calmed down a lot since they are now afraid of my little fluffy poodle. They were always teasing my terrier mix, hitting at our windows, barking at our windows, harrassing her when she was out on the patio. Finally (I have a real barky poodle, he wouldn't hurt a fly but he is territorial) one day she was out on the porch and this group of teenage boys started bugging her and the next thing I know before I could get outside to stop it, Zackie dashed out on the patio (I let them out there in the afternoons before the school bus gets here) and started growling and barking at them and he actually got between where they were and our terrier. Like I said he would never hurt a fly but Zackie has always been one to stick up for the under dog (I'll explain later).

Anyways I had never seen 3 teenage punks run away so fast in my life....because of an itty bitty poodle.

I've never let that happen again but all the teens and most of the kids stay away now.

There is a new little brat teasing Sasha now but I think I've made it very clear to him and his parents that he is to leave her alone.

Our new apartment will be ready in june so Yay!

(As far as Zackie standing up for the underdog....there was a dog in our old complex that was basically locked up all day. His owner would leave early in the morning for work...she would come home for 20 minutes in the evening and then leave to party the rest of the night. some nights she didn't come home. That poor dog cried all the time.

Well Zack would just lay up against the wall whenever he heard that dog cry. One day I was outside with Zack when the woman left and he started barking at her (like you get back in there with your dog) The woman knew I had issues with her leaving her dog alone so much)

Well Zack made such a fuss her dog started whining.....and then Zack started whining at her again....finally her father who was visiting told her "If you don't have time for your dog give him to me, I need a friend" That next day her dad came by and got the dog.)

Zackie has a sense of making things right when there has been a wrong.

I know how you feel though your dogs are minding their own business and it seems the world doesn't want to leave them alone.

That is why I prefer dogs I guess. My husband and I have 2 wonderful dogs.

Sorry that people can be so rude and I hope things can get better

I hate that. We had one group of kids that used to tease our lot through the fence, one day I saw the scariest thing everm i was up on the roof and heard the dogs barking, then the front gate open. Little shits had opened the gate and then took off running. Thankfully all the dogs had enough sense to stay in their own yard.

We had some frustration over our neighbor too, their dog is loose and wandering day and night on whole neighborhood. Sometimes he's in our yard bothering my dog and us here, playing with our trash can, digging on our yard, etc. Dad just put some stinky thing on the trash can, the next morning our neighbor is yelling so loud. That really makes us feel better.

YAY FOR ZACKIE what a good boy!!!!!!!!!
I am glad i dont' have that kind of relationship with the kids around here. THat would be all kinds of trouble since i have no fence. Victor did come running once with a boy chasing him saying HE TOOK OUR BALL!:D I made VIctor give it back. WIsh you could get on better terms with them, it changes a lot when you do. IF they are continuing to be a problem you will have to make sure they dont' throw anything in your yard that could harm your dogs. ALways my greatest worry.

Teens are tricky. You don't know what is in their heads but i would be careful being aggressive towards them.Yelling at them is deffinatly not the right approach.

I know Just how you feel & i have little one's. People think it's so funny to tease a little dog. Just because he's little doesn't mean he's not going to protect his yard!

We used to have neighbor kids that teased our cocker spaniel. One day he got the best of one of them and bit him. It takes a lot to get a cocker to bite haha but they left him alone after that, and of course the parents through a fit about our dog biting their trespassing kid..

Recently one of the neighbor boys was running past our house while Boomer was out. Being an aussie Boomer of course chased after him, and being Boomer was barking his head off. Now if this were me being barked out by a protective aussie I would have slowed down and gotten away. What does the kid do though? He runs into our yard right up to where he knew Boomer's barrier for the invisable fence was, and starts running at him and backing away. I was inside watching and decided I better step outside and warn him. I told him Boomer doesnt have his collar and if you take one more step, your butt will be in his mouth. haha he hasnt been back since.

My biggest fear is the kids and teenagers around here (our apartment complex) are pretty bad. A 13 year old egged and sprayed a vinager/soda mix on our door because he didn't like they way our Sasha looked. We caught two older teens torturing a stray cat, and came real close to killing it.

It bothers me to see kids have no respect for animals and it concerns me how far they might go to harm someones beloved pet. I normally bring my dogs in about 15 mintutes before the bus gets here but that day I didn't have a chance. They like to sun on the patio in the spring. But I'm always watching. The worst part is its a nice neighborhood and all but there is very little parenting going on.

The one kid that has started bothering our dog actually was throwing things at her from his balcony and that stopped right away, I did speak with the parents and they didn't realize he was doing stuff like that and they said they would be sitting down with him over it.

And the worst part is it seems some adults have no respect for animals and I fear that in the near future there will be less and less that want to protect the animals. I know not all places are like this.

We are actually moving to the next town over and we are going to be renting a 1 bedroom apartment until we get a house. (The nice part about the one bedrooms there they are all together and then all the 2 and 3 bedrooms are together. So I like that and they have a playground...which is good kids need a playground and we don't have that here)

Don't get me wrong there are some really good kids around here and I actually let them interact with the pups but the bad ones really do stick out you know

Sorry I didn't mean to highjack the thread it just bothers me when I hear about dogs in their yard/balcony/fence minding their own business and people come up to them to cause trouble.

Anyways

I just wanted to say one more thing.....keep your chin up! things will get better.....

(and if people keep doing it technically I would say its considered harassment but I don't like having to bring the law into things....I've only done that once and that was when the kid wrecked our door)

Anyways keep your chin up

I hear ya. A friend of mine, her mom had a doberman. Well the kids next door used to taunt it and tease it and throw lemons at it. This got the dog so worked up he tried attacking them NUMEROUS times through the fence, and was never happy. he ended up being terrible with kids and had to be put down because of it.

I was at the DP with a friend 2 days ago. I mentioned before there was a 4 month old GSD puppy that is NOT going to be well rounded. He's attacking everyone and this time the owners dad had brought him. Well he started biting at my friends dog, and my friends dog thought he was playing and was playing back. Well the owner didnt want any dogs near this puppy, so he SMACKED my friends dog's (an 8 month old puppy) snout and said "BAD DOG, GO AWAY!"

Im sorry, we are at the DOG park.

Chance, by the way, was being walked by my roomate outside of the DP along the fence meeting dogs one by one because he cannot handle the group environment.

If your dog does not belong at the DP, do not bring it to the DP.
