for beginners

got more..;)

Bonnie's mommy...if you could i need the pic you used to make the siggy with Zelda. I need to see a better pic then trying to blow up a copy of of your siggy, it is too blurry. If you don't have it, can you try to take one like it again, but from the opposite direction?

i think a pencil piece is all about the detail, or why would it be in pencil. IT takes way longer then paint, must be clean unsmudged or smeared (that always looks dirty)..it is just a challange in eye hand coordination, a practice in pressure. It is hard, and laborous but i am proud that i have been able to take it to this level. EAch piece has a reward in completion because it is better then the one before. I figure i can say i know what to do with a pencil. I am closer with acrylic but there is a lifetime of practice that needs to be done there. I started much later with paint. NOw i curse glazes:rolleyes: :p

you got to do the eyes best of all for they are the widows of the soul. I think that is the truest saying i know of, believe in...so I start there after i have everything where it really nees to be, lightly sketched in then corrected. Once i got it right ( i pray i got it right for there is no going back) then i start with the eyes for two reasons. If i don't do them right the whole piece will be wrong, and they are usually in the center, the best place to start a pencil drawing to avoid any smearing by a shirt cuff, or abrasion of a cover sheet. I spend the rest of they time being as careful as i possibly can be. My hands never touch the paper. I tape it to my drawing board.

Yes I love that saying too. I always tend to smudge pencil drawings though, it's so annoying.

i am almost finished, will post as soon as i am..wanted to bump this up for Bonster. (he peeked at Bronte;) and i am glad. :) That is the best part of all, if the customer is satisfied, i cant wait for them to go through the mail, but have decided to send all three at one time with fed ex so i know they will be safe. I have so little faith in our mail processing here. :(
Princess poppy i started when i was two..if you want i can show you one of my first ones! My mama saved so many but she especially saved the first ones. You can deffinatley tell it is a woman with breasts.
The way to get better is to do it alot. WE say practice practice but i think there is more to it then that, it is noticing things. You can spend a whole day seeing the differences in noses, or looking at negative space around something, with no pencil at all. Seeing pattern and color and how they play together. THen keeping a daily journal where you HAVE FUN with line and shading, experimenting with things like blind drawings, continous line, contrast, doodles, all will connect in your mind and somehow web together into a visual language for you. Today for me it was the sunlight that splashed against the trunk and limbs of the cedar trees out front. IT was pretty, and i kept a mental image that might show up in the future. Each time you make something you improve. Each time I make something i get an inch better, sometimes i gain a foot. The main thing is don't judge yourself against others, everyone's approach is different, and there is no limit to where you can go with your art. Just let it come from your soul, as a musician or a dancer does. That is my happy place in life, i can't imagine living any other way.
