Thought I would post some pics of the babies Grammy and had while we were getting acclimated with dogs. i'll post some REALLY OLD pics of her when whe was young with her Irish Setter she called "Tony Bony Macaroni". Meanwhile, this is the golden I grew up with. Rufus. He was so cool. He was about 15 and getting ready for rainbow bridge in this pic. We were the same age. I'll never forget Rufus.... he saved my life more than once!

Rufus was a handsome dog. It's nice to relieve some of the good memories you had with a special dog growing up.

we had them both dark and light at our kennel..we were field breeding so they looked a little different from the show lines..anyway i always prefered the darker shades. This is one truly handsome man.

we didn't have that many..mostly Mooner was the stud and Zha zha was our "female" Bubbat you would have loved them both..the grrrrl was so polite, when she picked up the bird she would take her paws and tuck it together, then pick it up like it was the most fragile thing in the world. her face was such concentration on the task until she delivered to hand..she had the most beautiful puppies..i truly believe that wood ducks and Goldens win the award for the best most awesome babies ever. Her puppies looked like they were made of spun gold...I don't remember what Mooner's real name was on the papers, he was called mooner because he would jump up when your back was turned, get a hold of your back pocket..and you can guess the rest.. it was his game, his way of demanding attention. I would take my fingers and make "claws" and roar at him "pretending to be mad" that was my part of the game...and he would hit the ground and "act" all mournful. He was a clown....i was gone from the kennels for about 2 years..and when i came back i was standing in the driveway talking to old boss..looked up and saw mooner in the end kennel..i made my finger claws..and he hit the ground..they never forget a friend. Whoever ended up with one of those pups got a fine dog...both knew hand signals, could do triples and blinds..were trialed for the duration of their lives....they were sooooo smart.

They are VERY special !! Each one of ours had their own personality and were so smart. I'm so glad my kids had them to grow up with ...4 legged brother and sisters.

The Classic Trio

(I'm going to have to go to my Mom's to get her pic when she was a teen with her Irish Setter, Tony). MEANWHILE, here's the classics I grew up with! From L to R... Bushwacker, Copperfox (who's in my siggy as a, ahem, more "mature" woman", and Cinnamon Bear! Copper was Bush and Bear's Mamma but they were out of separate litters. In fact, Rufus was Bear's Daddy!!! I was like 16 when I loaded these three up in the back of my beat-up camero and took them to a photographer to get this pic taken to give my parents (for their Anniversary, I think)!!! Me by myself at 16 with this crew! They were very well behaved, however! :D

AWWW !!!! Grammy's babies !!! The 3 were a surprise Christmas present.....I can remember EliN saying that when she took the 3 into the studio she thought " Oh, sh*t " when she saw all of the expensive photo equipment. !!! The next one was at a Golden Retriever club outing...Bubba is on the very rear left, I think the middle one could be Bear or maybe his Momma . Keep them rolling. !!!!

Rufus had such a sweet face. The professional picture is gorgeous I think I counted 12 in the wading pool! Thanks for sharing, they are beautiful dogs.

Smkie I also loved the story about Mooner.

Here's another...

Bushwacker, bless his heart, when he was 16 years old with our 21 year old cat loving on him (Minou) and Eli as a BIG puppy loving on all of them...
