My 7 year old Bichon often makes this weird noise for no reason. It sounds as if she's got a furball stuck in her or as if she's dehydrated. Other dogs make that sound when their owners pull their dog's leash very hard. We took her to the vet, and there wasn't anything wrong with her. I have no idea why she makes that noise so often. My other dog has never made that noise before. Also, she throws up 90% of the time after she drinks water. IF this is caused by dehydration, then what can i do if she throws up water? Does anyone know why she's doing this and how i can fix it?

It almost sounds like she has a collapsing trachea.. or some heart issues..

Not to worry you or anything.. but that would more then likely be the "worst case scenario" and if your vet has already assessed her.. then I wouldn't worry about it.

Otherwise.. it could be Kennel Cough..

I want to lean more to the trachea problem though..

I'd get a second opinion from a different vet if I were you.

It's quite common issue with dogs. try not to pull him too hard on the leash or train him to walk without pulling too much. it could also be a cough which will go away with proper nutrition, supplement to boost his immune system to improve his cough. If the occurances increases, pls check with your vet.

Best to video tape the hecking sound and your dog action then show it to your vet. because chances are they won't cough at the vet for him to review. if the vet cannot see the hecking sound in action, they cant do proper diagnosis if it's a cough or other problems. So make your trip worth it next time by video taping him. Take care!

Now THAT is a good idea! Make sure its of the same day as the vet trip or the day before as well.

We see SO many people come in saying that their dog is making a weird coughing noise and when the dog gets there, it has so much nervous energy the coughing stops..

yap. good luck on your video tape!

Another tip for all doggie parents, make sure u have shringe in your home at all time, in case yur pet has urine that is off coloured (e.g. redish), after their pee on the papers or toilet, pump it up, put in a pastic carrier and off to the vet with your pet. Most times, vets dunno how to dignose if you just say urine in red or black, etc. They will just give treatment for what they assume it to be rather then proper diganosis with a test of urine sample, etc.

Easy to get a shringe from pharmacy if u dun already have one.
