As I was reading through the posts, I keep hearing about these puppy zoomies! From my understanding it seems like a period where the puppy just gets wound up and crazy with energy. Right?

Well, I feel bad. I'm not sure I've experienced the puppy zoomies. The craziest I've ever seen Chance was after a bath one time, he kept running around and rubbing his body up against the couches. Then he finally jumped up into my lap, and passed out. Whole episode lasted less than one minute. Crazy running rolling on his back up in my lap and out cold.

Is it possible that I'm to hard on him?

We don't have the problems with the nipping, or play biting. We have ingrained off and leave it so far into his brain that he won't play with the boys unless he has an animal in his mouth. (We always put an animal in his mouth after we told him no bite, on the kids) Whenever we walk and a stranger squats down to pet him he sits.

The only area that I have difficulty with still is the cat obsession. He will leave it for 5 seconds, walk away sniff something, then go right back to the cat. And NO ZOOMIES!

Is it possible that I'm over exercising him. About 3 days out of the week I doggy sit another dog, my best friends boxer mix. They run, and run, and play, and play, and sleep maybe a total of 2 hrs during the day.

He is only 12 weeks old. I'm sure once he hits 5-6 months he may forget everything I taught him. I don't know?

Enjoy it! LOL I have 3 that do the zoomies. While it's funny to watch, it's not funny when things fall and the cats get involved. *sigh* It turns into a mess.

I think puppies need to burn off energy before they sleep. Mine gets zoomies before bed, naps, and after a bath. Enjoy them! They usually wont last forever :)

Tweeder is almost 9 and when it starts to get nice outside like it is now he will usually get zoomies when he's out playing with everyone. So funny!

Yes, zoomies are fun, but enjoy why your pup doesn't have them. Entergetic they are! Hershey did lots of zoomies when he was a baby! And now he is a protective boy. :) But they won't last forever! Good luck! And enjoy the puppy stage! Before you know it, he will be all grown up!

zoomies

Buddy gets the zoomies, normally at around bed time.
While I agree its funny to watch I have had to step in to calm him down as in the past he has hurt himself running into things. One day he hit his leg so hard I thought it was broken. Very scary.
Be thankful yours dont get them (yet). !!!! :)

My sweet girl, 9 1/2 year old doberman died doing her zoomies. As much as I miss her, what a way to go?

On the other hand, Summer never did really get them at all, even as a pup. She was just a low-key puppy as much as she is a low-key dog.

Now, we're dealing with Jordan and sometimes the only way to get him out of the zoomies is to do basic obedience, otherwise I just drag him outside, sit back and enjoy the show.

Peaches is about 5 years old and gets fiesty... she scoots backward on her belly when she is really excited, wont stop play-barking, and runs around the house at top speed with her tail between her legs. Its so funny, but it only lasts about 10 minutes. It sounds like my adult dog still has the zoomies! lol. Its her personality I geuss.

Chance got the zoomies!!!!!!!!! Granted I had a very busy day and he did stay in the kennel for 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the after noon. When we finally were able to settle down at home he was going crazy, wouldn't listen just kept running and chewing on anything in his reach. We took him outside and he was so alive. I had the nozzle on the hose on mist and he kept coming up leaving his mouth open until it filled with enough mist to swallow them opened up for more. Once he had enough water he just layed down under the mist for a refreshing shower. It is strange but so cute. Then he was cooled and recharged he kept trying to climb up my son's slide. It was great!
