Kayla wasnt socialized very well because she was separated from her mom at a very young age. So far I have been shoving a chew toy or a dentabone in her mouth every time she stops nipping at me. How do i teach her not to jump all over me and not to bite. Also soft mouth cause she has no idea how hard she is biting.

I would highly recommend that you take her to puppy classes, preferably one with a good trainer who allows off-leash puppy playtime. The socialization with other dogs will be EXTREMELY valuable since it sounds like she's been a bit lacking in that area in her life. But a good trainer will also help you through the ownership of your first puppy and will help you figure out ways to solve problems like the nipping much better than we can, as the trainer will actually be able to see the dog.

The problem with questions about nipping on a forum, is that there are so many different interpretations of what a "nip" is versus a "bite," what's "playful" versus "aggressive," etc. Example: I have a friend who is not a trainer but works in the dog training industry. She had a dog. The dog did a behavior which this friend described as "placing her open mouth on the person's arm." The person in question said, "THE DOG BIT ME!" What actually happened? Who knows. This is why it really helps to actually SEE the problem.
