There are going to be so many amazing litters and opportunities to get a great dog from great people within 2014-2015. I have my eye on one in particular where I love both the prospective dam and sire, but it will all depend on timing. A lot of the decisions that I make next year will have a heavy impact on my future and where I'll be (physically, and I guess in terms of life, too). I could make a puppy work, but will have a lot to figure out as far as housing goes. Trent will be about 6 years old then and that'd be a good age difference between two dogs.
So, I'll be considering a 2015 puppy. But with that said, I actually think a 2016 or 2017 dog may work out better. The litter I'd like a dog from in 2016/2017 is not guaranteed to happen because it'd be pending a few things, but if I don't get a 2015 puppy I'd really, really, really try to get a puppy from that prospective litter (or one from a very similar breeding). Because if I don't get a dog by 2017, I don't think I will again for a very long time - Trent would be 8 years old by then and that's the oldest I want him if I were to bring a puppy into our lives. So, 2017 is the latest time a puppy will happen, and I already know what litter I want her from. Fingers will be crossed (for the next 2-3 years lol).
I'm willing to wait for the right puppy and right time (timing doesn't have to be perfect, just has to work out well). NextDog will be a German Shepherd, of course. Unless I randomly fall in love with a Silken or a LH Whippet and just have to have one, but if that happens, plans for a GSD will remain the same.
