Oh, now that one's GREAT! Much better than the winner, I thought.

The link took me to the final announcement? Is there a page with the submissions? I couldn't find it.

I haven't flown in a couple of years, so this should be interesting now that they've reacted to the last few threats, I mean beefed up security.

The only way to "ensure" perfectly safe air travel is for everyone to have their belongings confiscated upon arrival at a bus depot, thoroughly inspected while all the passengers are summarily stripped and scanned and their clothing placed in clear plastic bags tied to their suitcases. Then all the now-naked passengers will need to be bussed to the air terminal, where they will be scanned and inspected again, to make sure that there were no "terrorist collaborators" traveling together and were able to activate internal proximity bombs. Finally, upon boarding, all passengers will be required to have their hands in the air for the duration of the flight, since all previous attempts at mid-air attacks have involved the hands being out of sight at the time of the attempt.

or we can do what the Israelis do and just profile everyone as they come in, and then actually search the suspicious ones.

But since that's not PC, it's not going to happen.

Its not just that its not PC. Its that it is HUGELY expensive. Israel is a small country, with a small population and relatively few domestic flights. The United States is a huge country, with a huge population, and thousands of flights, both domestic and international every day. We can not afford to "profile" by which they mean interview, everyone getting on a plane. It just isn't possible, unless we wanted to spend billions of dollars and delay air travel even more than we do. Yes, they do target people of a certain background more than others, but they check out everyone, carefully. It just wouldn't be practical here.

Then there is the fact that Israeli security can be downright, well, bigoted and creepy. The Harvard Law Record - Harvard Law student detained, deported by Israel

That's pretty much the sum of it. My favorite part is the new x-ray things and they released the over-exposed pictures to make it look like they can't even see much of anything, but then a non-government firm bought one of the machines and tested it and you get a pretty good view of the goods (they used a hot lady as the test subject too, so bonus points for them).

TSA will pretty much be synonymous with pedophiles soon enough.
