Which part do you advice on using the GL? the clicker? the recall? all of the above?

I was trying to think where I saw a really good training article about getting a dog comfortable (desensitized) in a GL / head halter....haven't found it. When my first dog (an award winning pulling machine :D ) started wearing one, my trainer adjusted it to fit him and we were off. It needs to be adjusted properly - but the little book that comes with describes pretty well. Basically it needs to fit snuggly around the neck part but the nose loop can be looser- just not looses enough that they can flip it off.
I just ignored my dog acting like it was driving him nuts (pawing his face) and kept him moving / walking. He already had been taught how to get into heel position or "get in" so we walked along and if he forged, I stopped dead and said "tooooo bad. get in" and he came back into heel position. I waited until he looked at me and then started off again. It took sometime and perseverance but he got the idea pretty quick. I had trouble keeping my "oh too bad. get in" voice neutral and light LOL By the 35th time I felt like shouting at him:rolleyes: With Sammy it was soooo easy. He wore it a total of twice and once he got the idea he was fine and went to a flat collar.

Oh- I guess I should add when the dog is in good position you can treat or click and treat and tell him how great he is. You can gradually ask for more and more steps in position befor5e you reward.
You can practice in the house /yard first until you and the dog get the hang of it and then gradually go to harder or more distracting environments.
The GL booklet is a good one well worth reading.
Not sure if that's the info you were looking for or not. Hope it helps. BTW It's great that you're working hard on training now-- makes walking dog while pushing a stroller much more fun! You might want to train your dog for that before baby comes too if you have a chance. I let my dogs forge when we are walking with the stroller otherwise they can't see anything and it's no fun. They know that with the stroller they can be just ahead enough to see around but not allowed to pull or have any tension in the leash. :)
