My wife works us a Ranger for a local council.

She picked up a 6 month old staffy healer X and we decided to give it a home.

So far it has worked out really well, she has dealt nicely with the cat and other dogs. Although there is a bit of competition between the new dog and our jack russel (two years old) for dominance, but they seem to be working it out.

The problem is we think the staffy may have been ill treated previously, mainly not being fed properly, when the wife orignally picked her up the dog was VERY skinny. So now when there is food out she scoffs anything in sight.
She obviously thinks she is going to be starved and wants to make sure she gets food.

What we were thinking of trying to do is basically stand over her when she eats and restrain her from going to the other dogs food. Is there anything else we could do??

Can't you feed them at seperate times? Like, put one dog in your room while your feeding the other?

I wouldn't do that if I were you.

I would just feed her separetly from other dogs for now. IMO I think she'll grow out of it once she settles down and learns that whenever there is food around she doesn't have to gobble it up, because that meal will not be her last.

I would feed them separately. She is probably nervous especially if she had lived with other dogs there would have been a constant competition for food. Just make sure she does not develop aggression with food, especially towards people. I think most dogs would go take another dogs food, it's fair game to them.
