just thought i would introduce myself - though i know many members already from the other dog forums and dobe forums, etc --

im kim, and im a vet student who will be graduating next may if all goes well :) im involved in animal rescue and some of you may know me from the rat rescue kim's ark.

personally, i own two dogs right now.

Bowie (bowie's modern love, RN, CGC, SND) is my rescued male doberman. he is approximately 7.5 years old now, black and tan with natural ears. i adopted him over 4 years ago, and we've come a long way. he is currently living with dilated cardiomyopathy, cancer (fibrosarcoma) and a herniated disk in his neck, but still going strong! he is actively competing in traditional and rally obedience, but we have given up tracking and weigh pull due to his health. hes a marvelous dog and simply the best :)

(excuse the water, he just got dunked since it was 100 degrees out!)

My other dog is mya, a hound mix (your guess is as good as mine!). She came from a local shelter after being passed around and not being adopted - she came to my school for the third year vet student spay program, at which time we diagnosed her with a heart condition. they didnt think she would survive the spay, much less be adopted, so i took her as a "hospice" case - shes become a wonderful perfect dog, very sensitive and smart in her own way! shes had some training but we stopped before we got her to agility, her true love - because shes currently in congestive heart failure (though she doesnt know it!).

continuing here, since it was too many pics for one post?

both of my dogs are raw fed, ive been feeding raw for almost 3 years now. i feed mostly lonsdale (whole prey) style as much as possible with no supplements.
we currently train and show as much as possible with bolimited time (and funds) thanks to vet shool, but bowie has completed his RN and we still have hopes for that CD before he retires officially! unfortunately we couldnt make it to dobe nationals this year, but i want to show him there just once (and the parade of rescues!).

both dogs are minimally vaccinated and i am actively using alternative treatments on them as well as traditional ones, and the complementary medicine seems to work well for us.

ill post more pics when my normal photo gallery comes back up (the server is down).

nice to be here and see some familiar faces!

ive been good, you?
i know its been awhile -it was nice to see you over here (Especially after the other forum pretty much just died away after changing hands)...

hows quigley been?

life has been fun - trying to find time to train the dogs while finishing up school, and i just recently got pneumonia/whooping cough (dont ask why the drs couldnt tell which one!), so now im hanging out at home taking my "vacation" to get better (and spending entirely too much time on the internet!)

yeah, "that" forum is pretty much a dump these days. i was sorry to see it go down the drain and finally left after i was constantly attacked for my opinions - opinions people had asked for, go figure. lol

quigley is doing great, we are making excellent progress in obedience and i am hoping we can start competing next summer. he truly fulfilled every single expectation i had when i adopted him from the shelter. :)

i'm sorry to hear you are sick, hopefully you will recover quickly! and if you want to catch up with a few of the "old regulars", do stop by at ourdogsonline!

Hi and welcome! I look forward to talking with you, especially over alternative medicine. I like to do the absolute best by my dogs, and that includes giving the vaccinations they truely need. I also work at a boarding facility where we have a board of vets recommended list of vaccinations and I've had more than one potential clinet tell me they would love to board with us but feel that we ask for over-vaccination.
