hi all
so i finally went and spent the money on a gentle lead (halti around mouth) and wot a great thing. as soon as i took him outside he stopped pulling which is great for me as i am 40 weeks pregant and pulling me so bad.

i have 2 problems with the new halti.

1: he is still trying to get the halti off his nose and starts jumping abt then he stops and walks nice.

2: when he had his old collar on he would go to pee and pooh no problems but since i have put the halti on he wont poo and wee when i take him, i take him to toilet abt 3 times aday and he will only got to toilet once out of 3. but as soon as i take the lead off he will run and the go to the toilet.
now you might think this is no problems but as i have to go downstairs to take him to toilet(as i live in a flat) and the communal garden i take him to is not that big and people can come past and he would run and jump up on people.
any tips as to how i can make him go to toilet on the new lead????

He is going to have to adjust to wearing the halti, as it is designed to sit in a very 'loaded' place on the dog's body. A dog's muzzle has a million different meanings associated with it, in how it's touched, to how hard, ect.

Just continue your normal routine, but toss in a few more treats and praise when he is walking nicely and not trying to back out of it. He'll eventually get used to it and will resume his normal toileting routines.

Make the GL into a feed bag. Every time you put it on or take it off, feed through the nose loop. It'll help the dog associate it with good things, not with "that awful annoying thing that goes around my nose." The more he wears it with positive results, the better he'll be at the beginning and the more comfortable he'll be with it on - which will help with the pottying problem.

yeah, that's kind of what we have been doing. We actually waited about a week before fullying putting the gentle leader on. Any periodic treating that we would normally give throughout the day required our dog to put her snout through the loop for the treat. After the end of the week she would start jumping in circles upon seeing the gentle leader because she knew there were goodies coming.

By the time we actually decided to use it, she didn't think it was such a bad thing. She got a little confused every time she hit the end of the lead, but there was no bucking or trying to pull the leader off.

When i 1st put a Halti on Bailey he "Bucked" all over the place on our 1st few walks.
He also had terrible diarrhea.
It took him about a week to adjust to wearing it.
He doesn't wear it anymore (he has a Harness) but he never fully got used to it, we had days where he would play up even after months of him wearing it.

I must admit the Halti is great for stopping them from pulling though.

Tira was fine, overall, when we first put her halti on. She pawed at it at first but once we started walking it was o.k. Sometimes when we stopped she'd put her head down and rub it on the ground. We'd stop her and now she doesn't do it anymore. It's great to stop pulling and now when we go out without the halti she still doesn't pull.
Just give her time...she'll get used to it.
