Hi everyone. My name is Jamie. I currently have a mixed breed dog Savannah that we got 2 years ago from the Humane Society. We also have a 6 month old cat named Asia.

I am getting a red/fawn female bullmastiff puppy about the 1st week of Dec. We are having a very hard time coming up w/ a name that will be fitting for her. Here are some of the names we have collectively come up with.

Vixen (my 3 y/o daughter insists on that one)
Sasha
Sahara
India
Kenya
Jetta
Jasmine

I am trying to find a name that isn't too common, but not way out there either. Since she will be really big I think she needs a big/powerful name. Can you guys help?

Thanks!!

Thank you Lisa! I look forward to seeing everyones suggestions. I like Sasha, but it's really close to my husbands cousins name so he's not convinced.

Yeah, I know what you mean. My husbad's cousin is Stacia (pronounced Stasha). Raina is another name I saw today that I like. I haven't run that by him yet. I like Harley too, but we aren't motorcycle people and that is usually the first thing someone thinks when they hear that name.

Vixen sounds nice. If you want a really unique name you could try "Bakulaw" pronounced as Back-kew-lao which means big gorilla.

Laurr ~ Thanks for the suggestions! I like the name Athena, it's different and sounds strong.

Bowowee ~ That is a neat name, maybe a little too different. I will run it by my husband.

So far we have narrowed our list down to Jetta, Jasmine, Vixen and now my husband says he likes Athena too. I thought of Aspen and like it but we shorten names all of the time and ya know, can't really shorten that! I would love to see a picture of your bullmastiff!!

chadanddenise ~ Thanks for your reply. I like Jade and Jada too but we both worked w/ a lady named Jada so that one is out. My husband is pretty picky and can come up w/ a reason to say no to every name. Thank God we didn't have much trouble naming our children! :)

my2girls, I would love to post pictures of Sam. I really would. Except my usb cable is somewhere in a box  and my digital camera isn't working at the moment. Oh, I also have a bouvier des flandres named Harley and a kuvasz named Dakota.

Vixen---

Whenever I hear that name I think of Vixie, you see Vixen is Harley's sister, I adopted her, Harley and Sirius all together I only went to get Harley intially (sp?) but then I figured out that multiple puppy ownership is hard, so Vixie went to my parents and Sirius went to my aunt and uncle.

Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and B-mastiffs are very smart doggies!!

Thanks everyone for your replies and thoughts! :) I have so many names in my head I have no idea what I'm going to name her!!! I have to have something that really sticks out. There has been a change of plans though, which will give me a little more time. We have decided to not get that original pup that I posted about. B/c they are so expensive we decided to look a little longer and truthfully find a Sire/Dam that we really like that will be expecting a litter soon. Soooo......... Rather than getting her in the first week of Dec., we will be waiting and hopefully have one by the first week in Jan. Late Christmas present for us.

Anyway, I think I want to get a more red one and the names that are sticking out to me are Raven and Harley. Our three y/o daughter still calls them Vixen though, so we will see.

I would love more advice and suggestions, and like I said, at this point we are in the market for a dog, so if any of you know and good reputable breeders producing red puppies soon, I would be interested in your suggestion.

Thanks again!! :)

Ok, so here's an update.......... We found a MALE bullmastiff puppy and we are sending the deposit for him today. We will have him here either the first or second week of December. Now, I finally found a name for a female and now we TOTALLY cannot agree on a name for a male!!

I like Maverick, Blaze and maybe Champ

My husband wants to name him Manning (after Peyton Manning) or Vanderjack and call him Vander after some other Colts player.

Can you all give us some suggestions? He's going to be really big, red w/ black mask and a white patch on his chest.

Thanks a million, I look forward to reading your suggestions.

Our other animals are dog (Savannah) and cat Asia
