Hey all. I'm new here and thought I'd do the introductions. I'm Joe, 29 years old from SC. I have 2 dogs, one older mutt (B.H., 11 years old), and an Australian Shepherd puppy (Khaki, 13 weeks old).
B.H. (which stands for Big Head) was rescued off of the side of the road along with 3 litter mates in 1995. Out of the 4 puppies that I rescued, I kept 3 of them (B.H., Molly, and Eddie). My sister took the fourth. Molly and Eddie both passed on due to cancer. Molly lived to be 8 and Eddie lived to be 10. B.H. still acts and plays as though he is still a puppy. He is very good with Khaki the pup, but does get annoyed with her when she starts jumping all over him wanting to play. He just lets out a growl to let her know, hasn't snapped at her or anything. I'm impressed with how he has been with the puppy.
Khaki, like I said, is a 13 week old red merle Australian Shepherd (that's her in my avatar above). After a lot of research on the breed, I decided to go ahead and get one. She is proving to be extremely intelligent. Although she is not completely house broken yet, she is to the point of telling me when she needs to go out by walking over to the door, looking at it, then looking back at me. She learned this within 1 week (I got her at 12 weeks old). I need to be paying attention though, if I miss her walking to the door she will do her business on the floor. That's to be expected though, I really didn't expect her to learn what she already has so quickly. That is one thing that drew me to this breed, how smart they are.
Anyway, I hope to be able to provide some advice when I can. I'm not an expert with dogs, but I have always had at least one dog.
