Hello All

Looks like there might be a couple folks here that know a thing or two about dogs.

We have a new member in our family. She is an English Mastiff named Honey. She is almost 5 months old and is about 50lb. I am new to the Mastiff breed but have been doing alittle reading. I realize that she is going to get BIG so we are feeding her large breed puppy food. We have treats for good joint health. Just wanted to know if there is anything else we should be doing to keep her healthy since she is growing sooo fast.

Thanks

Todd

Welcome. :)

The only thing I can think of to advise is not to feed puppy food. Even large breed puppy food. Adult dog food is actually a much healthier choice for large/giant breeds.

Hello & welcome to chaz. You seem to already know to not grow her too quickly. Raw meaty bones are ideal for a growing pup. Gives exercise, cleans the teeth & takes away some of the bordom.

Welcome!

I also second not feeding any type of puppy food for your large breed dog. What brand of food are you feeding? It's important to feed PREMIUM food. Purina, Science Diet, and anything under are not suitable for a breed like a Mastiff. I suggest Innova Adult Food, that is what I feed my baby Newfie :)

What brand are the treats? I wouldn't count on them to really do any good for joints, I suggest finding a good supplement(I use NuVet) to boost his health and immune system.

Be careful about over exercising your puppy! Large breeds it's suggested, like my puppy Newf, should only be walked according to their age. 1 minute per week. So my puppy is currently 16 weeks, I should only walk her for 16 minutes in TOTAL.

Good luck with your beautiful Mastiff, I'd love to see a picture :D

Hi, welcome to the forum. Mastiffs are great dogs, just make sure she gets the right amount of exercise and the right amount of food
