I have a few questions. I adopted a 2 year ld english setter mix. She was just fixed yesterday. How much should I let her clean herself? They said that she should keep it clean herself but how much is to much? Also, I can take her for a 15 minute walk cant I?

Thanks

I don't know the answers to your question, but someone else will. I just wanted to say that she looks like a great dog, and I bet she enjoys her new home....

Nooo...

She needs the rest, they say to let them rest for 10-12 days..That means no walks,no jumping. Just keep her quiet until she heals. The stitches inside can come undone if she is running around to much.

She also shouldn't be licking it,it will take longer to heal if she is always licking it as it will stay wet and might open up.

Hope that helps?. Shes very cute!

Aren't they suppose to wear those cone things on their heads when they are healing?

I've never heard about it being done with glue.

Kona was glued as well.

Nope, no cleaning, no walking. You should just take her out long enough to do her business and then back inside. She needs lots and lots of rest.

I made the mistake of letting Kona go out a few days after her spay by herself. It was a quick potty break, but she ran, opened up her belly, and grass got inside of it and got it infected. Talk about a huge pain in the butt... we had to spend extra money to give her the antibiotics she needed, had to make sure she didn't jump, clean herself, ect for about a month after that rather than the normal 2 weeks. Luckily the office visits were free!

So let her just take it easy. You could get her an e-collar from your vet or off of the internet but my vet said it normally wasn't needed. If you notice her excessively licking it, I would get one.
