New dog loving member need help choosing a breed.

Hi,
There r a lot of gr8 breeds out there,but one breed i suggest looking 4 is definately a chihuahua
I,ve got a 6 mth old chihuahua and she is so beautiful,such a sweetie.
She's full of energy,fun,loyal,playfull,definately affectionate and much more.
People say that chihuahuas are annoying and yappy,but they are the total opposite.
If u treat it right,love it,get it 2 know people and other animals (dogs),then it'll be loyal and friendly,etc,etc.
I,ve heard of chihuahuas being dominant and indipendent even though they are small.Also,every single chihuahua iv'e seen have been very playful,energetic and affectionate.
In my opinion,u should get a chihuahau,definately!
I absolutely love and adore mine and would'nt change a thing about her.

Have you considered adoption? There are a lot of wonderful rescues and even more shelters full of dogs who need a new home.

Not sure what to say, but, how many Westies have you actually met to make those assumptions?
(1) Not as much energy compared to other breeds. Are you making this statement because ONE westie you met isn't very active? This is unusual for them. Granted, some just aren't very energetic, but like I said, unusual for them. "Laid back" is not a good description for them.
(2) Will sit still. :lol-sign: I wish I could expect that.
(3) cuddly. On their own terms, and when THEY want to cuddle.
(4) needs baths often (white). No, no bathing frequently, it will destroy their hard coat! Grooming, yes, needs to be done frequent (stripping the coat), but an actual water bath... no. Lots of westies stay white with two baths a year. I know someone who will only bathe their paws and face on show days.
(5) longer fur, sheds buckets. We are talking about westies, right? The fur will get long (layers) if not cared for properly.. they shed very little.
(6) good with people. If properly socialized and if they want to be good with someone
(7) good with other dogs if properly socialized. *Some* But I do introductions carefully and play time is always supervised, each westie is different but I don't trust bitches not to fight with other bitches, as well as dominant males and other males.
(8) can be nippy. It’s common for a westie to use their teeth "as hands" - pulling on pant legs, mouthing fingers (not nipping, but actually grabbing a finger and trying to pull you somewhere). If the dog generally has good bite inhibition then they won't actually clamp down.
(9) will tire quick. If that was the case the majority of the time my home would be filled with westies.
The risks of food and inhalant allergies in Westies is high, so I can't stress the importance of feeding the best possible food you can enough to anyone who owns one. They are often called "stubborn" because of their "if I do THIS for YOU what will YOU do for ME?" attitude Positive training is a must for these dogs, I like clicker training. Very intelligent but need a patient owner.

Mordy - CA shelters kill me with all the small dogs they have, when I lived there I heard all the time people could never find one, there were always a ton and yet no one would even look, they just automatically assumed that they weren't available or would be adopted quickly so wouldn't try to adopt
