I just adopted a 2yr old Red Min Pin named Duke. He is a really good dog, but won't stop barking at other dogs. We live in an apartment and take him on several walks daily and with no avail every time he sees another dog he goes crazy! He practically rips out of his harness. Any suggestions on how to cure him of this? Most of the other dogs we meet don't even look his way even though he is chomping at the bit to get them. Thanks, Jen :)

Others are great at advising with this sort of thing :)

You need to get some Obedience classes going for you and Duke to start with.

Oh and Welcome to Chaz :D

I have a Corgi & a Dachshund and they both used to do this all of the time when I would take them for walks....it was rather embarassing!!! I have found that the more often I take them out the better they do. My Corgi is still doing it a little.

Hello and welcome. Trainning classes if you can if not maybe a squirt bottle ( water only) and one quick squirt. Another way is by redirecting the dogs attention.

Thanks Aussie Red for the advice. He is actually getting a little better. I would almost swear he is only barking at the ones he does not like. We have only had Duke for 3 weeks and every day is better and better. We even took him to the softball park on Sunday to watch my dad play ball. He encountered at least 6 other dogs including 2 HUGE bull mastiffs and was AWESOME!! He only barked when barked at first. And then we noticed something very strange... he barked at every single person that was wearing flip flops. I certainly hope he wasn't beaten with a flip flop by his past owner. We are hoping it was just a noise issue. But, just like Dena said, it is just taking some time and effort.

My new issue is that he is scratching like mad at his upper shoulder blade area. We took off his new collar as soon as we discovered the scratching welts, because we thought the collar was irritating him. We have bathed him with flee killer shampoo and nothing seems to be making it better. I have a vet appt for next week, but does anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions on what I might be able to apply to the area to help the irritation?

Squirt bottes do work well....I also had a problem with the dogs going crazy....barking....when someone came to the door. I couldn't even hear what the person was saying. I started using a squirt bottle. It did help.
