Until I started taking little videos of my dogs that Pepper licks the air every time she looks at me. NOw everytime i look up from my work and see her looking at me she licks. AS soon as I wake up I have to make a fast grab for my blanket but she still gets a few licks in. Sighs. Pepper. I don't mind a lick on the hand I really don't. Victor scrubs my hand real good when we are laying together but I don't like it in the face. I have tried everything short of wearing bitter apple spray. I don't know how to tell her because when she is stopped her whole heart just falls. You can see it. WHen she first came she would leap up in your face trying to plant one right on the kisser. WHen she was pushed away she shut down. No more eye contact, no more anything. IT was like she had one chance to make you love her and it didn't work so screw u.
I tried having her sit and shake as a replacement for praise and love but what happened more then not is people would squee when she shook hands and leap plant kiss then pulled back and sorries. WIth Pepper if she just understands what you want (don't ever push her) she is more than happy to comply so I know that I am just not telling her the right way. I just don't know how. If I could ever ask one of those dog communicators for some help this would be it. 2 years and this licking thing has tampered down only an iota.

JUles says Tbone is like this, and tbone reminds me a great deal of PEpper. If Jules had Pepper too she would soggy all the time.

Victor tries to pet me. He takes his paw and ever so gently touches my cheek, my head. IT took a long time for him to learn not to rake me to shreds. SO if he can get the message what is it going to take for Pepper to do so as well?

I have never been licked so much in my life.

Well maybe she just loves you so much that she wants to express it at every opportunity! :rofl1:

And hey, think of how clean you are now! ahhahahaha

I am thankful neither of ours are big lickers.........you get the occasional lick, but that's about it :)

SHe is effervescent to be sure. Any ideas out there? It is the one behavior that stops her from getting the love she really wants from people. Victor seldom licks anyone else. IT is tender and gentle, and brief except for morning scrubbings of my hand. I saw him lick Betty's hand at the nursing home and that is something he never does. I have seen him lick my MOM. PEpper licks everyone. LIke her tongue has magnetic pull. Mary thank goodness keeps her tongue in her mouth and is perfectly happy with head nuzzles. So was Bronki. THat is what my dogs are like when i get them from the beginning. NO licking...not necessary.

Some one picked Pepper up as a puppy and smooched all over her. I would bet money on it. Bet they squeeed too.

side note
Hyia has learned one thing. Do not disturb me while I am typing wait until I stop. SHe was standing behind me on the above post.

Now she is cleaning up her toys in the bathroom and talking like an alien.

..... what if you had her hold a toy or something in her mouth(so she can't lick you) and gave her lots of attention and love while she was holding the toy...

That might teach her to hold toys when she wants attention... but that's better than being licked! LOL.

Maggie sounds similar to Pepper - not with the licking, but with the shutting down if you push her away when she's trying to show love. In the morning when she notices I'm starting to stir, she'll come up and put her cold cold nose in my face and give me kisses. It's very sweet, but in the morning when I'm still half asleep it's sort of annoying and I sometimes push her away... and she just shuts down and jumps off the bed and curls into a sad little ball.

EXactly ^^^^^^

SHe is not a toy in mouth kind of dog or I would try it. I am afraid that would ruin toys for her. SHe loves them, a little bit each day she goes in and studies her secret stash and selects one to pounce around on the bed but that's it. It's a good idea but not for her.
