Hopefully they'll bounce back fine. Its sad when you can put in all the effort to find a good kennel. I understand maybe they wern't eatingin but I agree they should have called you.

Maybe I am over reacting a bit, but I was expecting to come home to my dogs being in the same physical condition they were in when I dropped them off. It would have been much different if someone would have told me what was going on when I called to see how they were doing. Instead, I was told that there were no issues and that everything was fine.

That wouldve worried me, I was so surprised when we saw ours again, they got hardly any excercise for 2 weeks so they looked a lot smaller, not skinny. But all their muscle fell off and they were all small it was weird.

Oh Jaclyn... (((BIG rib-squishing hugs, and Middie sends some slurps))) That is HORRIBLE. I am definitely with you on this.... they were in the wrong to not tell you your pups weren't doing well... Give Magnus and Maisey kisses on the nose for me, okay?

And how are your other little fluffballs doing? :)

Unfortunately, people often have no choice.
That's true. My dogs are protective on the property, and to have a petsitter come would be dangerous. They behave just fine in the kennel though, and we have never had any problems with the kennels around here. I'm sorry your dogs had a tough time, savethebulliedbreeds.

I don't think you are over reacting at all I would have been furious. If that kennel really cared they would have called you. Obviously they did not want to lose money thinking you would come get them early. I would NEVER use a kennel I do not trust them at all but I know my dog would not do good in the best of circumstances he gets way to upset if I am not around. Next time use a family member or get a pet sitter to come to your house. It would be worth extra money to at least have peace of mind. Poor babies I am so sorry they went through that:(

Had a bad experience years ago, boarding Prudence. Never again. We hired someone on our last vacation to come and stay at the house. Not as disruptive to the dogs. That kennel does not sound like they did the job you paid them for.

Thanks everyone, for reassuring me that they were wrong.

Nolu, the others are fine. They stayed with a friend of mine, but she couldn't take Magnus and Maisey because of some issues with her big dogs.

having worked at boarding kennels, it is my opinion that there is no excuse for the dogs leaving in this condition. i have worked at kennels that held over 150 dogs, and each one got proper care. if they were not eating, the owners were notified if possible, and we did everything possible to encourage them to eat.

if we had the owner's permission, we mixed in canned food (if they were eating kibble), or even cheese, yogurt, meat if allowed to. if necessary we would sit with the dog while he ate, or even hand feed if it helped. some dogs however simply would not eat no matter what, and the owner's were informed of this and it was suggested that they either supply something more enticing or use a pet sitter.

if the dogs were picked up a day early, the bath and nail trim would not have been done, but it would have been mentioned up front at the checkout, and the cost either refunded or a credit given. also any dog who wasn't clean at time of pickup would be quickly spot cleaned. i never let a dog leave the kennel dirty.

however, having worked at many boarding kennels, i am reluctant to board my dogs.

I hope they'll bounce back soon. Maybe you can report the incident, i don't know, there must be an agency where people can report such incidents. They can't just get away like that, and go on with their business.
