I just got my 20 month old yorkie neutured yesterday and I got him home at about 4pm. He doesn't want to sleep he just wants to sit up and stare at me crying. I feel so horrible. Is he in more pain then normal??? Is there anything I can do for him?

THIS is what the vet is good for...call and get him some pain meds if you think he is really feeling pain. Most dogs don't even feel bothered by spaying/neutering...but yours may be different.

It may be that your pup wants attention from you. Yorkie?? That could be the culprit :D I worked for a vet for almost 5 years and we did about 10 spays/neuters a day. Some of the dogs (especially the little ones ;) ) would be quiet all day and we could hold them and they would be just fine after surgery. The second I would hand them over to Mom or Dad they would start screaming and crying....such drama kings and queens. Like I have always said, little dogs are too coddled and their owners make excuses for them. I would defianlty call the vet though and maybe go in for a re-check. Make sure the incision looks ok with no redness or inflamation and MAKE SURE he does not lick or chew!

My boyfriend picked Jace up from the vet and then drove the 15 minutes home, when they got here Jace threw himself on me and started crying so i babied him and made him a bed out of the softest blankets i had. Roy said to me "he is totally soaking this up, he didn't act like this in the car at all" ... I still babied him because he is my baby and i'm sure he is in pain. I called the vet and they are giving me stonger meds for another 4 days. I just feel so sorry for him ... he's crying real tears and just stares at me and shakes ... :(

He also got a baby tooth pulled and his teeth cleaned yesterday.

The tooth would probably bother him more than the neuter, but he's probably just giving you the benefit of a little "Shakespeare" :)

Just keep an eye on him and try not to spoil him too much. The more spoiled he is, the longer it's going to take him to recover, lol!

Yeah... it sounds like he could be milking it a bit, BUT, I'm sure he was traumatized by all the procedures and just fell apart when he got with his Mamma, too. Sweet thing...

How old was he when he was neutered...why did they clean his teeth? Is he older?
He's only 20 months old. Which now that you bring it up, to clean his teeth at such a young age, seems a bit excessive. They were just boosting their bill, probably. Saying "Your dog will already be out, so now's a good time". Don't know about you guys, but unless there's a health issue with the teeth/gums, don't mess with it. I know that's a new thing for vet's to get more income. They keep trying to get me to bring my cat in for cleanings. Sorry, but I've had cats for 35 years and have NEVER had to get their dang teeth cleaned. And they've all lived long, happy lives with no problems. (If they're eating hard food, that is).

They probably extracted some of your dog's teeth. vets always want you to remove baby tooth that don't fall out right on time like 6 months.

Jace is doing awesome, and completely back to himself. I got his teeth cleaned because i was really worried about the k9 his baby tooth was blocking there was always excessive amounts of plaque and I'm not sure whatever else inbetween them that not even brushing could get out. I had them clean them just to be safe. I don't want to risk him having to loose that k9 later.
