can anyone tell me what the normal price would be to get a dog neutered? Because Bobby has started taking quite a liking to my leg so....i think it may be a good idea to get him "snipped"

I don't know, but I imagine it can't be TOO much. My shelter won't let s dog who is "intact" leave, so it was free for Peanut.

i can't help you with the price (like peanut my quigley was spayed before he left the shelter), but i can tell you that neutering isn't necessarily going to make the humping go away.

not that you shouldn't neuter him - it's a good idea, but there are other reasons for dogs to hump, such as stress/excitement and display of dominant behavior. my dog was an early neuter (3 months, way before sexual maturity), and he sometimes starts humping when he gets really excited. he also learned to lift his leg after he was over a year old.

your best bet to eliminate the behavior is firm, consistent training.

I don't know the price, because someone had Bear done for me; but, Beethoven will be snipped tomorrow, so I'll let you know what our vet says.

Even though it's not guaranteed (sp?) to make him stop mounting you, get him neutered anyway. Testicular cancer is my own worst fear :(

Welcome to the forums, BTW.

Jedi was neutered at 8 weeks. The shelter wouldn't release him w/o it being done. Anyway he is now 16 weeks and tries to hump Daisy anytime he thinks he can get away with it. He's also tried to do it to my son but that is another story :D I would still neuter your dog but the humping thing might not stop...

i would check with your local humane society also. I checked my vet and they wanted 200 for Nalla but the human society was $50.00. So that may be a thought

$35.00??? You've got to be kidding me! Beethoven's neuter alone cost $150. And, then add another fifty because he had laser surgery.... They managed to charge another ten bucks for his pain meds (which he didn't need; he wouldn't be jumping into the air if he was in pain), and then 14 bucks for an e-collar, because the vet said he was chewing his incision. The grand total: $260.

Its about $100 AUS here. The vets are making it half price ($50) b/c they want most of the dogs sprayed here. Stops all the pups. Good idea.
