My baby boy is getting neutered on the 8th and I am being a worried mother. Anybody have any suggestions as to how to care for him afterwards?

the vet should give you all the information you need, but the big ones are to keep him quiet and leash-walk only for the first week, and to keep him from licking the incision. the vast majority of dogs sail through neutering with no complications at all, but i don't blame you for being worried. it's always scary when your baby has to undergo surgery, no matter how routine.

He is a dane/lab mix. I plan on getting his tummy tacked before his first birthday (in February) and also having his displasia prevention surgery done before his 6 month birthday. I am VERY careful with him in the meantime!

Good, I'm glad you know what you're doing. As far as after care goes he is a male so should not need much, Just make sure he does not fuss with the incisions too much. Once he gets out of the anesthesia fog he'll be back to his normal self. My cat had a wicked cough after he got fixed because the tube irritated his throat, he looked so pathetic, but he was fine.

I have to back to work early afternoon the day after his surgery so I'm worried about not being able to keep as close an eye on him. My husband comes home on his lunch break so he will be checked on a few hours after I leave and I will be home a few hours after that. My concern is that he is constantly licking that region now so should I get him one of those medicinal collars to wear while he has the stitches and I have to be away?
