We are planning to have our boxer neutered in the next couple of weeks. One vet that we called charges $213.00 for the procedure. They are using the laser surgery. Another one charges $75.00 for the surgery, but they do not use laser. Would you go with the laser? Would it be worth $130 + to have it done with the laser? Thanks

What are the pros of having the laser surgery? Depending on what those are, I would stick with the normal neuter. All my dogs have been done by traditional scalples and turned out fine.

i don't see a laser as being necessary for something like a neuter, but i'd be wary to take my pet somewhere that only charged $75. average price around here for a neuter (no laser) on a dog that size is $200-250.

Price really varies from region to region and many vets offer lost cost options, but I would be concerned about what is included in a neuter for that low.

All the dogs I know have been neutered the old fashioned way with no issues. I heard recovery is quicker for lazer surgery, and thats its perfectly safe, but personally I would rather take my changes with the surgery that has been tested and tried for so many years.

I've heard laser sergery uses no stitches, theres no blood, I think it basically cauterizes as it cuts. I could be wrong.
As for the price of a neuter, our vet charges $65 for a neuter. Spay is $75. (Depending on the size of the dog) Go into town, and the price jumps up $20-$30 for the same procedure.

We had Bear neutered and it cost $75 here in NC. But then when you add in the blood work we had done (since we didn't know if he had allergies to anything) the medication and the anesthensia it came to $215. Now if you drive 45 minutes to the city you would pay $300+. I've never heard of Laser though for neutering.

We decided to go with the laser surgery. They seem to be more reputable. Our appointment is for Oct 13th. My husband and I are both off work that day and it's a Friday, so we will be able to keep a close eye on him for the weekend. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the suggestions.
