Ok, I am running out of idea's on what to teach Lucas. He is so smart and receptive when it comes to training because boy does he love the treats! lol

So the things he knows (sorry if Iforget any of them):

"Sit"
"Down"
"Stay"
"Come"
"Speak"
"Say hello" (like speak)
"look" (look at me)
"Heel"
"Shake"
"Leave it" (leave it alone)
"get it" (go ahead and eat/get it)
"easy" (Take treats easily)
"High five" (same as shake but like a high five)
"Both shake" (shake with both paws at same time)
"Off" (off things like couch etc)
"Open" (open trash can by pressing on step to open lid)
"Touch" (touch with his nose)
"push" (pushing doors, cabinets, drawers, etc close)
"pull" (pulling fabric tied to cabinet open)
"kisses" (give me kisses :D lol)
"Back" (back up)
"Bow" (Bow)
"Toss" (toss toy to me)
"Fetch" (go get his toy and bring to me)
"keep" (balance treat on nose)
"hold" (hold toy in mouth)

HE know some of the names to his toys like the "cow" (it's a tug toy with a cow's head) and his "snow man".

He also knows Roll over, crawl, and to stand on hind legs, but I don't do those any more because of his arthritis. So anyone got suggestions on tricks that wouldn't be hard on his hips?

I've taught Roxy a couple variations of "speak", first I taught her speak, than "whisper", she makes a barely audible sound. And now she's just got "sing" down pat. Instead of just barking, it's almost like a soft howling, you give her the note and she'll "sing" it! LOL

Another audience fave, lol, is "bang", she stands, I say bang, she drops, while moaning, and plays dead.

My guys don't know this one, but Quest posted how to teach a dog to hide their eyes with their paws. That one would be cute!

I can't think of anything else right now, but Lucas sure knows a lot of neat tricks already! :D

Lucas already "sings" when he speaks. He howls when I say speak. It's like

Me:"Lucas speak!"
Lucas: "Wooowooowooowoooo"
Me: Good boy!
Lucas: "Woowoooooowooo"
Me: Ok that's good thanks
Lucas "Woooowooowoooo!!!"
Me: OK OK!! here's your treat!
Lucas: *Gobble*

lol :D How would you teach the varying volumes? Such as the "whisper"?

Play dead is a good one, but I'm worried about Lucas' hips and joints.

Ohh that would be cute! How do you teach that one??

Thanks :) He's a smarty pants lol You should see when he gets frustrated doing the same trick over and over and just starts going through all of his tricks lol

To teach Roxy the whisper I just changed my voice, the signal is my pointer finger by my mouth, like "sshhh" and I just say "whisper" quietly. If she barks loudly, I wince, like she's hurt my ears, (LOL) and just give her a disgusted look. She figured it out by the third time. Sometimes I might verbally correct her like "Roxy! Oww! Quiet".

lol that's cute! Do you have to say speak first?

I've been trying to do "bashful" with Lucas. I blow in his face, but he just looks at me  He doesn't put his paw over his face or anything. He just looks at me like I'm nuts, closes his eyes, and somtimes covers my mouth with his nose  I blew in his face for like 5 minutes and still nothing! Arg...it's rather frustrating! lol Know any other way to teach it or anything?

I taught be bashful/hide using a hair rubber band. Just put it around his head above his eyes and click and treat every time he makes a motion. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6151866813622920156 there's an example at the end of this video.

Aww that video was great! Flashbang is super cute and you did a good job connecting the pics with the song!!

That's a good idea, though I think a hair band wouldn't fit his head lol I'll have to find something he will paw at I can put on him! Thanks!!!

I can't help, BB, we're still teaching Buddy things, but he's not nearly as advanced as Lucas is!

I'm going to try one of those sweat band things people wear around thier heads when excercising to saok up the sweat. Hopefully that works and he doesn't think I'm putting another costume on him that he has to just live with for a while

That's my next one, how do you teach speak?
With Lucas teaching speak was a little hard. He doesn't speak naturally that much...only to other dogs when he get's excited and to the ambulances that pass by our house often.

So find something your dog will speak to, but make sure it's something you WANT them to bark/howl at. If it's aggressive barking DO NOT reward! You'll end up with a problem on your hands if you reward aggressive or barking that annoys you.

So when they bark....like he barks at a certain sound (ambulance sirens work well for some people if you can get a recording of one) and when your dog barks at it just reward and attach the name to it. Use high value treats if your dog isn't very vocal. But I'm sure others could give you easier ways to teach it :)

Well, I've always used reward based training (usually treats because he loves food). Sometimes I had to use some very high value treats for a few that where hard fo him or strange to learn. Just make sure and control how much your dog gets.

For the kiss one I just added a bit to his "Touch" trick. I would tell him "Touch" and give the signal on my cheek where there would be just a bit of peanut butter (yeah I know....Ick! lol). He would lick my cheek and I would reward with a higher value treat and then put the name to it. He got it pretty fast. Most likley your doggy wouldn't have to know Touch either...just get your dog to realize you had something on your treat...yumm! lol

Any other trick you want to know how I did it?

You could teach him to go to a certain area, such as his bed. ...or to get the mail or something?
Well he already knows to go to his "spot"....I use it when we are eating so he doesn't beg. As for the mail....I don't want him off leash.....plus he'd have to get it from a very flimsy mailbox lol Thanks for the suggestion though :)
