Back again for an update. Barely had time to think let alone come online, so sorry it's been so long. At noon I reweighed everyone and while most had not lost any more, they were not gaining either. I called the vet, and they brought them in for a look-see. We've decided to tube feed for a while to make sure they get the food in their systems that they need. They just can't seem to get enough while nursing.

On a good note, when I got home and it was time to nurse I noticed that Renee is finally really getting her milk in! Three of the puppies ate so much off her that I didn't need to tube them at all. Most got a little, then were tubed the remainder. Everyone is now sleeping with fat happy tummies.

Renee's totally sucky and doesn't want us to leave her alone for long. I think she really wants the pups on her, but they are too fragile right now. They get cold if they are left with her for too long. So in the basket they stay.

One advantage of tube feeding - it's done SO much faster. I think I might actually be able to get some sleep soon. 9 hours in 3 days just doesn't quite cut it

Glad to hear you will get some sleep. Poor Renee she just wants to be a good mom and can't understand why they need to be in the basket!

Very short update - we are gaining :) Almost everyone is back to birth weight, and a couple are even over it! Renee is not happy with having her puppies in the basket at all. She's ready to be a full-time mom. This evening I went upstairs to prepare formula and take a short break and when I went down 15-20 minutes later Renee had "stolen" a puppy from the basket and was busily washing her down. :rofl1: Several other puppies were soggy from over eager bathing in the basket  Silly Renee - but great mom.

A few new pics on the blog. Now off to sleep for at least 4 hours...

Glad to hear that the Vet has you tube feeding them. I raised a litter of Greyhound pups when the mother died and it was so much easier, quicker and more efficient than doing the bottle feeding.

Good luck with them, glad to hear they are gaining and that the mother's milk is starting to come in.

Happy to hear that the babies are gaining :)

Love that Renee stole one of her little ones out of the basket. What a silly girl :D

So everyone gained again on the last weight in :) Several are nursing well enough that I hope to stop supplementing them. There are 3-4 who just don't have strong enough suckles yet, but I will keep working on them. We are finally getting an easier routine with 5 puppies on for an hour while the other 5 rest in the basket. They seem to be holding their temperatures better while out now, though a hour is the limit. Still this is keeping Renee happier as she really wants them with her. Anyway, back to keeping an eye on everyone.

Most will be like her, though some look like they will be darker. One male is a wheaton, who will be blonde looking like my other girl, Cleo. Another male seems to be flat grey - which might be a dark wheaton, or a true grey rather than a brindle (which looks grey in Wolfhounds).
