As many of you know Chloe is going to have a ultrasound done....and my vet was going to call in a referral for me to a specialist in Charlotte NC..

well, when I got home today there was a message from my vets office saying that the soonest that she can be seen at the specialist is after June :yikes: and I dont think that I can actually wait that long without knowing what is really going on..

He had given me the options of going to the specialist or having an internist come to his office and do the ultrasound....so know I have to decide whether I want to wait a month or more and go to the specialist or have it done ASAP with an internist...??

Any Opinions?? What would you do??

Huh. I'm not a patient person so I think I'd have the intern do it but only after meeing him/her and feeling comfortable. Is it cheaper to have the intern do it?

Jess, the question is, do you feel confident in the internist's ability to interpret the test? If you do, I say go for it. But if you are still going to have a lingering doubt after it's done, then I would say wait, because you will then end up doing it again anyways.

Its not an intern ;) its an internist (a vet that is specialized in internal medicine) and anyhoo, its going to be about the same price.. and the vet said that she has been doing this for about 20+ yrs and she was really good at reading them...

Me ?? I think wait until a person with a bit more knowledge can do it and read it right. They obviously do not think it to be life threatening or they would be moving faster. To be reassured I would call my vet and ask him what he thought about it and go from there.

You just posted before me.

I would have the internist do it. Here is my befuddled reasoning:

Pros:

1. You would know if there was a problem earlier.
2. You could possibly begin treating the problem earlier.
3. Chloe may feel more comfortable at your vet's office.
4. It would seem like your vet could get the results right away too which would allow him/her to formulate a plan of action.

Cons:
1. If there is a problem that requires treatment by a specialist, you might have to wait anyway.....

Can't really think of anything else against having the internist do it right away. :D I am not a patient person though.

Thanks gals (guys) :) I'm going to take the weekend and think over it...but as of right now I'm leaning towards letting the internist do it...

It sounds as if the internist has a ton of experience...could you talk to her on the phone to see if you feel comfortable with her?
I don't see why you shouldn't let her do it... I would have it done earlier this way, too!

Unless it's an emergency, I would go with whichever person is more qualified. What did your vet recommend?

I'm impatient also.. but if you had a heart problem you would go to a cardiologist, right? We had to wait a long time for Bella to see the first specialist also, maybe you can look for another one as you will want to get a second opinion anyways (ok, well this is what I would do anyways. :) )

My Clinic has a vet from Purdue University that comes in twice a month for ultrasounds ,,,, I went this way with Chip . With 20 years background , I'd go for it . A lot can happen in a month .
