So yall know what happened with me joining the Army and all that BS that happened over the summer.

I am going to go see a therapist about my right shoulder, which is why my Army recruiter said I couldn't join but I am slightly calling bullsh!t.

Anyways, the feeling of me joining never left my body, even after I was told I would never be able to join. I knew deep down that I could join and I would make it happen, someday somehow, I would join. I have been wanting to serve my country for so long now, that when I think about what that recruiter said to me, I almost want to burst into tears. I want this SO much, I have never been more determined in my life.

Now I have not decided on what branch or what MOS I want. I am open to any branch and just about any job.

I would like for those of you that are in the military, have been in, know someone in, etc. to give me opinions/advice on the different branches and MOS'.

I am doing research on all of this but wanted opinions from others as well.

:)

Like I said on FB.... USMC all the way lol!

What interests you? Whatever you do, do not go in with an open contract.

My husband was a data tank and he got an awesome job working for the USMC as a government employee now.

I am biased towards The Army, of course. LOL

Branches that always interested me, other than being a tank crewman which I LOVED. LOL (Sorry, direct combat arms are closed to you.)

- Military Police - Not just your typical "cop".

- Military Intelligence - Specifically MOS 97B, Counter-Intelligence Agent. I think you have to be in the Army 2 years before you cna apply for it. Also in MI are a bunch of other cool jobs. Ground Surveilance Radar/Firefinder Operator. UAV Drone Operator.

- Medical Corps - "MEDIC!" LOL Or your other more 'typical' medical jobs, just like civilian ones.

- Signal Corps - Many MOS's that trnaslate into good paying "today" kind of jobs.

- Finance - Just what is sounds like.

Stay AWAY from...

Chemical Corps - Once you go to basic, you will learn why. EVERY soldier hates that stupid "gag bag". In Chem, your job is to LIVE in one, basically. LOL

Quartermaster - Supply stuff. Important, but just seems really boring to me.

Holler if you have any specific questions. Been there, done that.

ETA: If you really want to go into the Army and recruiter X is giving you a hard time... A.) He/she sucks, go find another one from a different station. B.) Don't give up. I had to get a medical waiver because of permanent steel pins in my right hand, the result of a hockey injury. I got in. Was a PITA, but I got in.

I have a buddy who's Army MOS was 88M - Transportation Corps. He drove the big rigs all over the place. Of course, if you end up in a combat area (he was in the first Iraq War), I'm sure a tanker of fuel is like a massive "shoot here" sign

A lot of things interest me. Intel, aircraft (that is a biggie, helicopters and planes make me feel like a little kid lol), & stuff relating to those.

What advice would your husband give for someone (well me, being a female lol) going into the Marines?

I have dealt with my far share of PITA recruiters both AF and Army.
AF seems to be the worst that I have dealt with.

I like intel. Combat Medic makes me all gitty inside, I like it lol

If you didn't go Army, where would you have gone?

That is a bit horrifying.

My old man would have disowned me.... LOL As far as we can tell, there has been a man with my surname in the United States Army since before the Civil War. Before that there were several others that served in the Revolution and the War of 1812. That string was just broken with my cousin Mike's retirement.

The Marines I guess. They are the only other service that operates Armor.

Every soldier has a less than fond memory of where they took Basic. I took OSUT (kind of a IET/AIT combo. Combat arms does it that way...SAME drills for 18 weeks. Joy) at Fort Knox. Fort Knox has hills. Big ones. I got to walk up and down and up and down them, with lots of junk in that stupid backpack.

I was a TANKER. We ride (supposedly in some cases I reckon) in style. 71 tons of love wrapped around you. LOL

71 tons of love wrapped around me does not sound like any kind of love I would want lol
Though I am sure it would keep me safe, it just doesn't sound all lovely dovey and cozy lol

Puck nailed it lol. Fort lost in the woods sucked. It rained, it snowed it hailed and then the sun came out and cooked us. Within about a four hour time span mind you.

Not anymore. No. I went in for Military Police. I also wrecked my truck about two weeks before I went in and it screwed my back up pretty badly. They discharged me because of it.

NT really lol, after six weeks of basic I was pretty happy they were letting me leave. It was the dealing with excruciating back pain every night that really sucked and when it got to the point I couldn't really get up in the morning they made me go get an xray and said Yeah its screwed, we can fix you or our you can sit here for a month and we'll send you home and not doing such physical work will probably help.

So I said send me home and I'll deal with it. Six years later lol, my back is still not the best, but it doesn't impair me or anything.
