Hi everyone I am new to this :) ,I need an advise for I am in a point were I dont know what to do with my new 2yr old yorkie  female for I know it takes them a while to adjust to the change but I have had her for 4 days and ever since she shakes when she sees someone get a little close :( and I call her by her new name and she wont answer and I call her my her last known name and nothing so I call her by her AKC name (Cutie Pie) and nothing I try to make noise like sending kiss and telling her come on girl and padding my leg in a sweat voice and some times she replies but hardly I have heard her bark low only 2 times and I was told she is potty trained but it is obvious she is not she wont pee every wear but shes not trained and it seems like she was abused for I try playing with her and she shakes and runs to her bed so all this confused me I think she was abused but how can I help her outcome all this? How can I train her without scaring her more? She wont even walk with a leash so we wont take walks because I have to drag her for she wont walk and I saw she don't walk with leash so I rather carry her and talk to her but I don't do walks for I don't know what to do specially cause we have bad weather in my state.I brought my brothers Maltese over to play with her and she started running and follows him most of the time but still wont bark and when we pet snoopy out Maltese she licks us for attention and when we pet her he gets jealous and dose the same that's great sign and I tried taking her for a walk to see if it would make her feel secure and encourage her to do the same but nothing,I also forgot to mention she is in heat would that have something to do with it? she loves to be caressed and all she do is walk a bit around the house and sleep or lay down in her bed all day.I appreciate all your help and advice you all can give me for this is the 1st time I have to go thru something like this I have helped and raise a chow and the Maltese and a Dalmatian and never had nothing like this.So I'm confused on how to help her...ThanK you:)

Hi.Okay, you say you have only had her for 4 days. That is not long at all. Why do you think she has been abused? What is her background?Maybe shes just scared ,confused and overwhelmed with her new situation?I would just slow down and let her get use to you and to trust you.

How many dogs does this breeder breed? Has your dog been bred?Maybe she has had not much socialization.Hopefully if you give her time and lots of love she will come around.

Awww, poor baby! It does sound as though she is quite overwhelmed. You said you got her from someone who breeds different dogs so she is probably used to being crated most, if not all, of the time. She is experiencing things that she should have become accustomed to as a small pup.

What I would suggest is staying very low-keyed with her. Don't approach her too much when she is nervous like this. Sit on the floor with some yummy treats and let her come to you in her own time. She will eventually come to realize that interacting with her humans is a good thing.

If as I expect she was crated most of the time she probably has had no experience being on the other end of a leash. I'd suggest getting a very light leash & putting it on her in the house and let her just drag it around. When you want to take her for a walk, again use extra special treats to lure her to follow you. Make it loads of fun.

I would suggest starting to potty train her just as you would a young pup right from the beginning.

Another thing you should not do if you are is to coddle her when she is nervous about something. Act very matter of factly as though you don't have any reason to be concerned and she will eventually follow your lead. If you start petting her & babying her when she is nervous she will get the impression that she does have reason to be concerned.

I would also recommend having her spayed. And as everyone should do when they get a new furpal have her vet checked if you haven't already.

I am sure with your love, patience & dedication your sweetie will thrive and soon bloom into the confident, loving & playful furpal you envision her to be.:)

Awe, she is adorable. We also have 2 rescued yorkies that are a bit older (8 years) and they too were very shy, shook alot and even cowered to the floor when you went to pick them up. We gave them their space and although it has been 10 months now since we picked them up from the foster they are doing great. They still cower slightly if you make sudden movements, they will scatter if you drop anything on the floor and the one still runs and hides if company comes over. But they are both giving kisses, following me from room to room sleeping with us and just perfect angels. The only thing is, since they spent the better part of 7 years caged it took a long time to potty train them, they still hate going out in the cold wet grass and they most definitely didn't know what it was to take a car ride or even go for a walk. Myles will not go past the end of our driveway and Houdini will only go for about 4 houses then wants to go back home. Both of them still shake uncontrollably when taken to the vet or groomers while in the car... But all in all, I wouldn't trade these 2 boys for anything. Hang in there, the reward of taking in these unwanted critters is priceless.

Glad to hear she's coming out of her shell. Just be careful with that biting at your hands, terriers are often nippy and although I don't think it's automatically a big concern, terriers also tend to push their luck and a 2-year-old dog doesn't have any teething excuses. Yorkies are big-dog personalities in small packaging, and they're at their best when you keep them nicely exhausted by a good adventuresome outing. They make coats and boots (which are hilarious but effective) for small dogs, so dress her up and take her out in all sorts of weather to all sorts of places.

Boy thats the truth, our yorkie girl (a little over a year) thinks she a great dane or something. She is definitely queen bee when it comes to my husband and she does push the limits. But... like the others, we wouldn't trade her for the world..LOL

Hi everyone..Sorry I did not kepp you guys posted about Cyndi..She is doing ok my brothers Maltese is gone so she dont play no more she those follow me all the time still and loves for me to pet her and rub her tummy,But she wont play and is scared of everyone and she acts same way as your little boys YORKIELOVER same exact way she shibers and shakes uncontrolabley and after all this time I still give her space and she seems as mabey she was hit something that I think is insane because they are little ones that have to be trained and teached the right way like children, and mabey caged for she goes nuts when I put her in her bed she cries and makes like baby noises cause she wants to be with me and she makes me feel bad but thats like when I put her to rest after runing around the house for quite a while..Should I let her out or leave her in?It is true like YorkieLover said Unsociolised animals is what they are called they are hard to train as I'm reading a big book all about Yorkies and how to train them anyone intreasted in a copy email me it gives a good amount of tips..We have tryed makeing her sit but nothing work on it for mabey 3 wks no response at all.So I am keeping my patience and letting her rest for a little bit before we start again,I realy need an advice on one thing I love for dogs to be playfull and she dont even know what is that she dont know how or what it is to play with humans or other dogs and or dog toys how can I teach her this?I whant her to see that there is realy much more out there than just sleep? She has bad breath and body smell what can I do to ease it a t least a little?I got her a cute sweater she looks so beautifull I will take her a picture so you all can see her diffrence and she looks like a million buks(lol)I will keep you guys posted...

I hope you are not thinking of breeding your Yorkie.

Many aspect of temperament are inherited, and this sort of shyness and shivering in toy breeds should really not be passed on.

You should have her mouth examined by your veterinarian. Many toy dogs have extreme tartar buildup and it needs to be removed if that is the problem. You can have the teeth cleaning done at the same time you have her spayed.

As far as body odor, what are you feeding her? Diet has a lot to do with how dogs smell.

Update

Hi RedyreRottweilers I feed her well I give her same food she was given at her other home Max small chunks for small breeds not sure if that's the best but the vet said it was ok to continue feeding her that,I did take her to a vet check after her first shot and everything is fine with her she has no problems what so ever.I do have to brush her teeth more often because the other owner never did she did have very dirty teeth when I took her the last time. She is now doing great she now is responding when I call her name she walks with me on a leash,;) she even runs with me to open my door when some one is at the door and walks outside a little and as soon as I call her she runs in,she is potty trained on newspaper of course:) we have had like 2 or 3 accidents but she is left around the house and wont do her business else were other than in the washroom on her spot! :D She is getting used to other animals since we take her out to the store and family has come to visit her she is coming around great ,she loves everyone to rub her tummy or the back of her ears..:) Regards breeding her No I am not breeding her at least not now I did not even thought about it,But some family do want me to do so but her time passed a while ago so if I do I will check with my vet and make sure she is in good health first that is my priority I just feel in love with her and her as well we get along so great that I would not change her for nothing...She turned out to be much more that expected.I will definitely keep you all posted. Also Thank You for your advice RedyreRottweilers you dog is so cute my cousin has a male almost the same and they are great watch dogs also...
Happy New Year To All and Thank you for all Your advice it has helped us a lot..
