Hi all! I have a question. I've tried to find the answers in the forum and haven't gotten the answer I need. Since Jester is a puller on walks (not when it's just us, but when he's amped up or he sees another dog or person he can tug), I want something to help teach him not to do that. Right now he has a regular choke chain that I hate using. It's been suggested to me that I should get either a Halti or a harness. Which of the two is better? Why? Thanks!

I've used both the Halti and harness and prefer the harness. The halti rubs the muzzle just under the eyes, and it's very easy to injur your pup if not used correctly. My dogs don't like the halti, they rub their muzzles on anything they can reach in an effort to take it off.

I would start with an easy walk harness (made by premier- the people who make GL) and see how that goes. If he's the little pup in your avatar I can't see needing much by way of leverage.:) Keep in mind no equipment teaches the dog how to heel or where exactly heel position is, not to pull etc, it just gives you leverage so that your arm doesn't get yanked off during the training process.

lol....no, that's not him. I just happen to like the pic. You can't read it, but it says, "This is Fluffy. He is the destroyer of worlds." Jester is a black lab pup, 9 months old. You can see his pic in my profile.

Yes, I'm looking for leverage more than anything else. He knows how to heel, but sometimes he gets so excited that he convienently forgets. My arms aren't very strong as is, but you should see them now that they've adjusted to holding the beast back! :D Thanks so much for the suggestion!

I've used both and my dog and I both prefer the harness. I actually use a seat belt safety lead which is a harness that can be used in the car with a seatbelt. That way he gets used to wearing it and it helps with the car rides to keep him safe.

My dog HATED the halti!! The instructions said he would get used to it but he was so angry with it on and looked very sad. He was very frustrated and this just made things worse. I found the harness works best for us and I keep him on a very short lead and he does fine.

i've never used a halti but i have the same problem with yoshi. she's a lot better than she use to be but when she'd pull she'd start coughing because she'd almost choke herself on her collar. the harness is awesome. she'd pull when i first put it on but now she doesn't pull as much. she stays right next to me. if she gets really excited she'll pull a little bit but now it's not hard at all to hold her back.

the head halter will teach him not to pull, the harness will make it easier for you to control him.
