I am starting my dog on a 1/2 kibble 1/2 medallions....they have him a tester at the store to see if he would eat the medallions and he loves them....they fed it to him frozen since they didnt have any thawed....I was wondering if it would be a problem to feed them frozen to him all the time or not? I would prefer to feed them frozen

I don't like to feed them frozen to Meg because she tends to just gulp the whole piece. I thaw and then mash them up with a fork.

If you don't want the thaw them because it's gross (admit it, it is), I've got it down to a science. Six medallions (two meals for Meg) fit neatly in an old cottage cheese container. I thaw them in that in the fridge, then just poor them into the bowl and mash them there. I never have to touch them thawed.

LOL, i gave him 3 of them today frozen, it was funny but scary also....he got 1 1/2 of them down and just started shaking so badly, very very badly, i finally figured out he was shivering. he was cold as I dont know what, probably had brain freeze also, poor dog. I am thawing them out from now on

Ahhh, if I only had to deal with little medallions, my life would be a lot less gross. I have to get the 2 pounds rolls of the stuff and then portion it out. Ew. So see, little medallions aren't so bad when you think of having to deal with a couple pounds of hte stuff huh?

:lol-sign: I'm lucky I have an "easy keeper". I will gladly pay the bit extra for medallions or nuggets to avoid having to deal with those awful tubes that ooze all over.

I started my dog on this on Friday and today is Tuesday, well I fed him 3 Medallions last nite (I am doing half kibble half raw) and he threw them up after a few hours. I dont want to overact but am not interested in cleaning this up all the time if this will become a problem. Is it maybe too rich for him? or did he just have a random instance here...any suggestions or ideas?

I never had any issue switching Meg over to raw - not even an upset tummy.

How did you feed them? I know you are thawing them now, but is he maybe just gulping too fast? I know someone whose GSDs did that, so they would mix the raw and kibble with water to make a chowder-like substance, which forces them to eat slower. That's my only guess.

Dekka throws up all kibble. Never had a problem with raw. It isn't likely richer than the kibble. (lol unless you feed a low qual kibble) As Boston asked, did he gulp it down really fast?
