I have recently started feeding my two miniature dachshunds the NV Raw and they seemed to be doing well.

They have been eating it about a week when I tried some lamb and it made my male sick. Since he got sick he won't touch anything I put down in raw form --- is this because of the fear he will get sick?

They have been eating this going on two weeks and my female has had no problems. I'm now doubting if this is good food and wondering if I should switch to something else. I did get a sample of the Honest Kitchen and tried it and neither one of them seemed too crazy about it --- but I have heard nothing but good things about it.

Any help or feedback would be great.

Thanks,

-Ashley

The Nature's Variety raw is a great food. Some dogs do develop aversion to things that make them sick. Did you gradually switch them over or did you switch immediately? You could try fasting the one that won't eat for 24 hours and then presenting it again. He will eat--eventually. :)

We went through a 4lb bucket of the Honest Kitchen's Embark. Herschel really liked it and he did well on it, but not really better than he did on Canidae + supplements. In the end, I couldn't justify the cost (especially with the new Border Collie puppy) when I was getting the same results with kibble.

nv raw

I feed my two cockers NV raw medallions (lamb, beef and dhicken/turkey). I also feed Honest Kitchen. Both dogs love both foods (they eat anything like its their first meal in a week), and their stools are good. I don't think I will ever go back to a kibble, and am happy with both prdoducts. I would make my own, but I did that once and both dogs lost teeth, so I am afraid to do that again. i did not feed bones, my male would not eat them anyways and my female only had an occasional bone. The vet said their calcium/phosherous levels were off.

Well....

I finally got my male to try the raw again and he was fine the first day he ate it (it took a lot of sweet talking to get him to eat it) but when he ate it the second day he got sick again.

This was with the beef --- not lamb. They have usually always had some type of chicken/turkey based product (even with kibble) but he has eaten the raw hamburger, etc in the past and been fine.

Could the problem be that his stomach is sensitive to anything that isn't turkey/chicken based? He never once got sick when I was feeding the chicken/turkey medallions. I really want to leave him on raw but I'm now getting concerned that his poor tummy just can't handle it.

Thanks.

I'd keep him on the chicken/turkey medallions and then start adding a pinch of another flavor medallion and gradually increase it.
