Young Living has very pure essential oils. I'm a distributor and you can access their site at youngliving.com. I use essential oils for a lot of different things - just got in to it this year really - and love that you posted the flea/tick 'recipe'. The only thing I don't have on hand is the rose geranium oil, so will have to put that on my next order.
Please keep us posted so we know how your mix works. I'd much rather use something like oils to repel than Advantix.

I wouldn't either. Sorry Cindy, but I've visited a few websites that bring into question the quality of YLO's oils (and Whole Foods as well).

As I don't know you well, all I can say is, don't hang all your hopes on this. MLM companies make a pile of money for a few people at the top while most get left behind, burning relationships with their friends and family along the way. I really hope it works out for you but the best thing you can do with your entreuprenurial spirit is to go into business for yourself. If you're reasonably successful at MLM, you'll make more money doing it all yourself.

That's my unsolicited 2 cents.

...our "daytime park spritz" is lavender, cedar, lemon grass and peppermint oil with a very small touch of teatree with distilled water, a good shake then spritz before we head out.
Could you possibly post the recipe for your spritz? It sounds nice and simple, plus I'd like something I could spray on myself as well. :)

To the OP- if you can afford it, Botanical Dog has a 4 step system that is the best I've seen. It's a little out of my price range right now at $49.99, but I hope to try it eventually! And you can buy any or all of the ingredients, there's just a small price break if you buy them together- but it's a shampoo, conditioner, ear cleaner, and spray.

I have used Frontline in the past with bad results (depression for 3 days to 1 week after application . . . and my sister ending up in the ER). I used Advantix last year with great success, but this year I am on the search for something more natural.

This product was suggested to me, and I'm going to buy a bottle this weekend and test it out on my three. I live in tick central so it's a **** good testing area.

ya, not all conventional treatments like frontline works on your pet. a friend of mine used frontline rigorously without much effect on the pests.... best to switch the brands if it shows any side effects on your dogs. I heard the brand "Accurate" is less toxic, not sure. Anyone tried before and if it works?

In any case, I still feel we shd ensure optimum immune system as the best option to ward off the pesky fleas and ticks naturally....takes time but it's well worth it.

I actually use the sergeants natural on my pups. I like it because the ingrediants are oils beside the "other active ingrediants." I actually took the box to my chemistry teacher and asked what those ingrediants are and what affect they a have on animals/people.

Other active ingrediants:
Isopropyl Myristate is pretty much rubbing alcohol, it used to help the dogs oils spread it around its coat. Not much of a risk factor there unless you plan on setting your dog on fire.

Vanillin is a organic compound used in food items you'd like to taste like vanilla, obviously this is used for sent?

Active ingredients are:
Peppermint oil
Cinnamon Oil
Lemon grass oil
Clove oil
Thyme oil.

oh yeah, and they havent had fleas or tick at all this year. Not one.

And to the one that didnt get good reviews,

2-Phenethyl Propionate* .... 5.00%

"I will buy this product again
By Heavenly Schnauzers from Cave Junction, OR on 1/18/2007
Pros:
Effective, Gentle, Good Value, Lasts 25 days

Product met expectations, doesn’t last the full 30 days but I love the fact that it is not harmful to my pets!
Was this review helpful to you? Yes/no"

Boy is she dumb.

Is a horrible chemical! It is literally a pesticide. Just because its organic doesn't make it ok. Mercury is organic and if you get it in orifices or just on your skin it will seep in and stick in your heart!

Anything Phenyl is nasssstyyyy. We were experimenting with phenylalanine in chem and we were not to get in on out bodies anywhere. It eats through clothing and all. And if we did, we were to tell her very very fast, and be "nutralized"

my chem teachers a crazy woman, but thats besides the point. Taking chem makes you aware of all these gross harmful chemicals, expecially in our *dun dun dun* pet foood.

sorry for the double.

OK, made-up a batch of my oils, tested it on myself, then tested it on a patch on the dogs for three days. While they don't like the smell, there is no irritation.

I've applied 3 eyedroppers full to each dog along the spine under the coat and a little on the top of the head then brushed it through a bit.

I waited until I was sure the Advantix had stopped working as I found dead ticks on the dogs for a month and a half after the last application and found no ticks until 2 days ago when one was attached and alive.

Wish me luck!

Update:

Applied oils this afternoon. We went to the park. Tweeter just had one tick fall off him on to the couch. It didn't look engorged but I'm a bit discouraged. Maybe the oil hasn't worked all through the coat yet?
