Anyone else watching?

At first I was attracted to it because I over heard soemthing about teaching a dog to train. "Teaching heel is about training the dog to pay attention to you, and not the distractions around it." The trainer went on to show all sorts of forceful methods. I was angered because I heard a trainer that is into the "dominance" stuff. But then soon it switched over to JEAN DONALDSON herself teaching another person to train a dog with her methods. I'm not sure exactly why, but I've continued to watch the show since.

I hope to see more of Jean Donaldson!:D:D:D

When is it on? What channel? Is Jean Donaldson always on or was this just a one time deal? I never heard of this show. Sounds interesting. Of course, I don't need another TV show which angers me. CM is enough. LOL. But if Jean Donaldson is on, that would be cool. I'm glad you got to see her.

Its the Old Dog New Trick myth I guess.

For me, it is on right now on the discovery channel.

I think in the end its actually going to turn out with the two dogs trained with different methods showing off and competing about who learned more and best. :D

The other trainer at least eventually backed off of hte harsh methods when the dog started submissive peeing and being fearful. Shoudln't have gotten there in the first place  ,but at least she isn't as dumn as some trainers and continue with those methods.

The dog that was trained with positive methods won with completing everything it was asked, AND with enthusiasm. :p :D !!! :D

Spoiler Alert!
---------------------

It should be noted that that positive trained dog Lost! By half a point ;)

The submissive urination did not happen while the trainer was there, but when the novice took over. Either he got a bit rough, or the dog just didnt like guys very much. I've seen some dogs with bad histories do that from just hearing a guy.

I guess if you pay careful attention to your dog, either way could work.

Jamie (the walrus) had the positive dog. It broke its sit stay early. Adam, had the female with early problems, but she pulled through!

In any case, one broken stay out of all that, 7 year old Malamutes, you have to be somewhat impressed. Buster is named after their crash test dummy, but he has not picked up what their Mals did :p

I guess I could have somehow gotten them mixed up. But before perfection, I place confidence and happiness. And you could see signs of stress in the dog that was trained early on with the harsher, dominating methods.

Heck, I was just happy to see Jean Donaldson in action!!! :D:D I LOVED her book.

Yeah, I saw it last week and Adam's dog won, not Jamie's dog (the positively trained dog).

I LOVED the segment with the bloodhound! It was sooo awesome to see one doing what it was bred to do! He was amazing!

I dont like the guard dog that they used...Very pretty dog but there were jiust some things about the way he acted whilst he was supposed to be guarding that disturbed me...he seemed to be more of a human protection dog than a property guard dog if that makes sense, which was the myth they were trying to bust...Still neat to watch though!

The bloodhound was awesome!!!! way to go for the person working their dog!!

As for the training methods thats a toss up. Every dog, even within the same litter, reacts to training differently and nothing was said about the history of these dogs. Itd be interesting to see the training continue and watch which dog can respond to commands without treats first and which one is more reliable. But then again, in order for the results to be accurate regarding which training method is better, you need to be testing more than just two dogs. I will say though that i did not like seeing the prong collar being pulled out as a first resort.

I have my lessons at the field where they shot the guard dog part. The guy w/the dog is a police officer and the dog is schutzhund (I think, or his police dog), so not a trained guard dog per se.
Notice how Jaime's dog had a prong collar put on right off?
I too loved the blood hound.
