We are in the process of looking for another new vet because of the same type of problem. Our last vet moved, so we hadn't really had a need for a new vet until we got the puppy. I had researched and narrowed it down to two (both came highly recommended). When he asked my husband what we were feeding our puppy and my husband told him raw he responded with, "you need to keep her on kibble for now" and gave him a look. If looks could kill my husband would have hit the floor.

It's hard to find a vet that is 100% agreeable to raw, but I'm not going to have you forcing Hill's CRAP down my throat because you make money off of it.

So, once her puppy shots are finished we are done (they were all paid for in advance before this happened and they don't give refunds).

Brian - where are you located? (You say PA and NJ - I am in NJ, near the PA border).

I wouldn't suggest turkey necks - a lot of animals vomit bone on them, and they are not enough meat for long term feeding.

I recommend starting all new animals out on chicken leg quarters- right amount of meat and bone in my opinion, and very easy to get for most people (and very cost effective!).

I wouldn't worry about using a new novel protein at this point - your dog could very well be allergic to a grain. I would just give the raw diet a chance - novel proteins will cost you a lot more to feed 100% of the time, rather than just as a supplement.

Depending on where you are, I can give you some good pointers on where to get food, and even the info for my co=op I am a member of.

Just a side note - your vet may not be pleased not because he is losing business (because you aren't buying z/d anymore) as someone else suggested but because they honestly believe that the diet is dangerous or potentially will not help your dog. While I am a raw feeding vet, many vets are not educated on the diet and cannot help but do the knee-jerk reaction (heck, I did it too a decade ago!)
