My wife and I just got a new puppy a few days ago. His name is Leo, and he's a chihuahua / shih tzu mix. I think they call that a Shichi.

Anyway, he seems to be totally healthy to me, and he's going to have his first vet visit on Friday, complete with shots and everything. I thought I'd post a little video here of Leo playing with one of his toys. All of this playing seems totally normal for a young puppy, right? One thing I'm kind of proud of - towards the end, you'll hear my voice calling Leo to "come," and he drops his toy and comes running. I guess he knows he gets his belly rubbed when I call him and he comes.

So, everyone just reassure me that he looks pretty good. Playing with that much energy, he must be fine, right? I always get a little paranoid when we have new pets around, because I'm worried something will go wrong.

I can't watch the video, but everything you said sounds like perfectly normal puppy stuff :D

And I asume you adopted him, right? Kudos for doing so :)

Any pics?

Thanks! Yeah, we like him. It's my wife's pet, really (my pets are all tiny finches in a big bird cage), but he's starting to grow on me, too. I really like how he looks - the brown color, but not all the same brown. He's doing great on house training, too (or, I guess we are doing great, because he has no idea how to tell us he needs to go at this age, but we are doing great at diligently taking him outside to the potty spot a million times a day!).

Aww what a DOLL!

I just love small breeds... he'll be charming all the people on the block before he's 6 months!

Congrats on the new pup! I hope you have many years with him :)

He's adorable!! One thing I noticed was the way he looked at the person who put their hand kind of toward him while he was playing with the toy...did I even hear a growl? I'd start working yourself into his play and make sure he doesn't have the beginnings of toy agression. Like take the toy right out of his mouth and then give it back, get your hands involved so he starts learning that it's okay for you to have his toys too.

Good idea, Sush! I read something about that recently, and we've started doing that today with his toys, and his food, too. So far so good!

I totally understand you, especially after Charlotte... I kept seeing bad signs in Christie, I do hope everything's OK with her too. Leo looks like a wonderful, happy, healthy pup to me. Thanks for posting the video, I loved it! :D
