Why don't you try it softening those colors up a bit and save the strong hues for accents, otherwise it can get very overwhelming in a kitchen - especially a small kitchen that doesn't have high ceilings.

Those wrought iron curtain rods (or the looks-like ones) make great towel racks, and you can get replacement knobs and pulls for your doors and drawers in the wrought iron. Something that simple can make a drastic difference!

Yeah, I'll have to do something with the countertops. I can't afford much more than paint at the moment though

you can paint countertops. with a bit of sanding so the paint adhears well, then at least 3 coats of polyurethane....they last really well and instant new color at my favorite price...CHEAP.
