We went to a party yesterday, one that I did not wanna go to. Anyway, we came home and the our 2 beagles weren't jumping agaisnt the door. We looked in the dog house, under the deck, and around the yard. We looked at the gate and it had been left open, where they both walked out.

I look over and there was my one dog(Boy). I was somewhat relieved that he actually stayed near the house. My other dog Brandy was missing. My dad and I got in the car and looked for her. We got a call, she was hit by a car and killed. We got her body so that we could bury her. Her leg was bloody.

I miss her so much and don't know what to do. The whole family is heartbroken. I feel bad for our other dog who he was with everyday. He seems lonely and walks around the yard like he's looking for her.

This morning we buried her. It was so sad. I would like to get another dog in a few months to help Boy out.

Anyone have a similar experience? I cant stop thinking about it

Btw, the driver didnt even stop to say sorry. We have no idea who it was

Poor Brandy! I'm so sorry. You, your family and Boy should spend as much time together as you can, IMO. Help each other keep going, ya know.

It's hard to get over ....especially if you have any " what ifs " about the gate. R.I.P. dear Brandy .... hug your boy.

that is my worst nightmare, Bronki got hit once and i saw it and thought i was going to break up right there on the spot. I am now more road paranoid then ever before. I am terribly sorry for your loss. My other dog Mary was Bronki's mom and she wouldn't eat or show any zest for life afterwards, we felt so bad together that i couldn't stand it anymore and that is when i went to petfinder.com and found Victor. He didn't give us time to grieve with his desperate need for love and unbelievable energy. He healed us in his very own way.

One of my dogs got hit by a car right in front of me, my bf, and my little sister. I was walking my lil sis to school with my best friend & sammy, when somehow Max our black lab got out & came running after us. He then ran into the street (which is very busy!:( ) At that moment I freaked out, and then a huge truck ran into him! He bounced back like ten feet and then the ppl just drove away  ! But then max got up and ran home! and when I finally got home he was perfictly fine, besides a scrape or two. (we like to say his blubber saved him) he has never ran out of the house after that. We were very very lucky!

Wierd...Why you ask? I had a dream today that one of my dogs was hit by a bus. His leg was hurt and his neck was positioned funny. It was a bad dream and I have been extra attentive all day not that my dogs would get hit but just makes you have those save them feeling.

Im so sorry for your loss. I can kind of relate. I had a Irish setter that was hit and leg was shattered. My parents put her down. I was so sad and hurt for a very long time.

Aww I'm so sorry to hear that :( I had the same worries about our gate, a couple times someone opened it and I was totally paranoid about it. We put a chain and a lock around it and we won't let the dogs out when we're away and I feel better about it now... There are always sick people opening people gates for no reasons :( Again, really sorry it happened to you :(

I'm so sorry, my prayers go out to you.

I lost my dog ''Lucky'', (guess not so lucky :( ) on 03/06/05, a couple of days until my birthday (17th of march). I guess sometimes I know its not good to blame it on your self, but you know ''if only'' always pop out. See I was one of those people who let their dog's walk off-leash. My little one, Didi was just a nightmare trying to walk on a leash. She would slip out of her collar, and sometimes just would not budge. But as soon as you let her off-leash, its like a whole another dog. She just will follow you everywhere. So thats where I thought it would be a good idea to just better let the dogs off leash. They always stopped at the end of a corner to wait up for me so I could say go cross if I was behind them. They had the routine walk memorized. That one day Lucky didn't want to go the long way home, but Didi had other plans and walked her little tushie to the other side of the street. I went and crossed the street to get Didi, and Lucky went right after me. He saw Didi on the other side of the street and went after her. Then this big suv car was comming, Lucky was in sight and right near the crossing so I thought the car was going to stop. But it didn't. The car hit Lucky and he yelled this big yelp, my heart just sank. And the car didn't even stop, it just ran over him and all I could hear was the big thump of my dog getting ran over. The car kept going, didn't even stop. I was just to worry to see if by some chance Lucky made it to see the plate on the car. In the meantime no one even helped stop the car. I saw Lucky just lying there in the middle of the street, blood comming out his nose. I went to go get Didi from the other side of the street. This guy who saw everything from his house went to help me get Lucky off the road. He even tried to do cpr on him. All this time I just kept asking myself why and if only. If only I had carried lucky for when to get Didi, if lonly I had a leash on them. Why didn't the car stop even if they knew they struck something? Why didn't the person even stop to say they were sorry or to help me? I wish I never saw the whole incident. Sure I may of had more ''if only'' if I didn't know what happen, but having that memory of witnessing your dog get killed, constantly, and hearing that yelp, its probably 100x's better not knowing what happen :(

RIP LUCKY

Actually I know from experience that its 100x's better. See while away at my dad's my cat got killed. We think she was ran over, not sure, we found her dead at a neighbor's yard. It was heartbreaking of course, but not as heartbreaking as losing Lucky. I still had that pondering ''if only'', If only I didn't go over my dad's, if only that night I looked for her when she didn't come when I was calling for her (inside/outside cat). But I rather just not know than to of witness what did happen to my cat.

RIP GIGI
