He's going to get fixed, this tuesday. I have to drop him off at 9:45am and pick him up at 6:30pm. How did this procedure work for everyone else? How did your dog react afterwards?

Some dogs are lethargic and sore after the procedure, some are bouncing off the walls and ready to go go go. Buddy was bouncing off the walls, Banzai was curious to his new suroundings, but he was very tired (he came home, officially, the day after his surgery).

As far as advice about before or after.. there's nothing really to say. Don't panic, listen to vet instructions pre-surgery. Keep your dog as calm as possible afterwards.

If your dog does experience some discomfort, then it's best to try to keep him as comfortable as possible... give him some of his favorite things, etc..

:)

I am glad you posted this, Orson will be going in a few months (after he is 1) and I am nervous for various reasons. I am glad that most Vets do not require an overnite stay any more though :) I would rather him be home with me.

Same here. I don't want my dog staying at the vets. The sooner he's out the sooner I can comfort him! I know it's a good thing, but I also am worried lol I feel my dog is going to be a little upset when he comes out.

My dog took the neuter harder than any dog I know. I picked him up on the friday after work and he was still extreamly out of it, was hard getting him up the apartment stairs. And then he spent the whole weekend in one spot on the ground, he didnt move. except when I took him to pee. When Monday came around and he still was just laying there I took him back to the vet and he had an infection and from there it just got worse. He ended up on meds for 2 weeks after and had to wear the cone the whole time. The vet figured what caused the swelling and infection was when he came to in the vet he panicked and started throughing himself at the cage. So I dont mean to put scary ideas in your head but Duke is one dog that took the neuter really hard. Then there is the complete opposite with a friend of mine as soon as she picked the dog up he was all ready to go like nothing even happened to him.

Victor had a rash that scared me to death. Another Chaz member posted that english pointers are sensitive to the gas and i wish i had known that going in. i was ready to run to the er vet but my friend Kelly said to try benedryl first, we did and the rash went away. Hope your dog sails through the procedure and gets back to a happy life.

My Muffin just had the surgery. She's at home resting & recovering right now. Make sure to reduce her activities, and keep her as comfortable as posible.

My Peanut was just neutered this morning. I had to not feed him after 7 p.m. last night; he could have water. The surgery went well. The policy is that all dogs must spend the night so I'll be missing him. He is not supposed to run around much it say for 7-10 days (vet said try for at least 1-2). I can't wait to pick him up tomorrow. I actually didn't feel bad leaving him there because he fell in love with everyone.

You should not feed your dog food or water the night before the surgery. (that what I was told by the vet). Muffin had her last meal the afternoon before the surgery, which was at 10 a.m. the next morning. I picked her up at 5:00 p.m. on the same day.

i'm in the same situation. Milo's already one, and i haven't gotten him neutered because i'm so scared to put him under. i'm going to schedule an appointment, but i'm still nervous!

good luck with everything, i'm sure it'll turn out fine. he'll probably be sleepy for the first few hours home.

Aww thanks. Good luck with you as well. I still have butterflies in my stomach about it. The sad part is once we reach the block of the vets office Blackie is always begging for me to pick him up and he starts to cry and everything :( . But it's for his own good.
