Im mostly worried about him getting infected since he got neutered yesterday and he hasnt healed much.. he was only in the pool for a few seconds and we dried him off when we got him out. Is it a high chance that he will be infected? This is an outdoor pool and isnt that clean compared to others

If you want, you can clean the area with a little diluted betadine solution. The most important thing is to keep the wound dry. You run the biggest risk of infection when an area stays moist.

I agree .... wouldn't hurt to add an antibiotic salve. Was this a doggy pool or chlorinated pool ??

Hmm. If it's a chlorinated pool, I wouldn't worry too much about infection, but some kind of salve wouldn't hurt.

Call your vet and ask! Don't be afraid! LOL, You paid for the neuter, so I'm sure they won't mind to give some free advice over the phone! :)

Make it a habit to check throughout the day and feel to see how warm the area is. If there is an infection starting, you will often feel the infected area get a good bit warmer than the surrounding areas.

And your vet's office should be happy to answer any questions for you :)

If its getting red, that means infection is present.

Crosbie went through a few bouts of infection when he was nuetered and was in and out of the vets office.

Give the vet a call. They can precribe some ointment for your pup!!

It is ok for a wound to feel just slightly warmer, maybe slightly swollen, and be more red then the rest of the skin, but if it feels hot, or is swollen more, I'd give the vet a call. Or you can dap it with peroxide, neosporin or another liquid antiseptic. (My vet said to use liquid antiseptic).
Dakota went back outside the day after his neutering. (His choice, once the drugs wore off, he wanted nothing to do with the inside!) I checked it a few times throughout the day, and it healed just fine.
The vet should have probably given him a shot of antibiotics anyway.
